Car has been running like crap from time to time. Engine cuts out. Fuel pump cuts out. I can whack the ECU and sometimes it will shut the motor off. It always turns back on, so I know it is electrical. So, I cracked open the mofo today to find this on the underside of the daughter board:Is that something fried? It is C503 on the board (left most column, top component on the board):

What exactly is this component? Can I get another one and solder it on, or should I just bite the bullet and buy a new ECU?

I don't know what that could be, but I did find that my EPROM was loose in the socket (I have a socketed ECU), so that could have been my problem. I will keep looking around. My electrical engineer homeboy is coming to my graduation party on Friday (I finally get my BS!!!) and I will have him look at it. He socketed the ECU for me anyway.

looking at the naming scheme, I'd cxxx is a capacitor. R is resistor and T is transistor.

anything that is resocketable, give them a wiggle in their sockets to clean them up.

Well, it is driving just fine now. It started to be very sluggish and hard to start, and was running so rich as to be dumping raw fuel out of the tail pipe at idle. Now, she runs like when we first chipped it. I guess that was my problem.

As for the burnt out capacitor, does anyone know enough about the CA ECU to shed any light as to what it does? I am going to post on ZTech and see if anyone knows on there as well...

If you determine it is the ECU, I have a spare I am willing to get rid of.
