Hello Forum, I’m new here

I’m reaching out from Mexico, and I have a question for you guys.

I recently bought a Nissan Rogue 2009, it has 80000 miles on him, two weeks after i bought it i did an oil, oil filter, air filter and coolant change.

Before and after the changes I notice some behavior on the RPM of my car,

• When I turn on my car in the morning the RPM goes up to 2000 RPM, going down as the temperature goes UP, is this normal? Some cars do this on purpose but I don’t know if to that extend (Too much RPM??)
• The idle RPM for this car is on 700-800 RPM, is this normal?
• When I’m going in the Highway about 60 MPH and I take an exit to a red light, I make a complete stop, one second later the RPM on the car goes down to 500, and the car seems like it wants to turn off. I don’t think that is normal right?. This behavior is repeated once every 2 days, but if I have the AC on it repeats more often, like 3 or 4 times in a 1 hour trip.

I don’t have check engine light on, so what could it be?.

If it works, I have notice that turning on some stuff on the car affects my RPM, even turning on the rear window defogger makes the RMP go down a little.

Could it be a faulty regulator? Or it’s something else AND a faulty regulator?

Thank you for your help.

Greetings from MX :D

- My Rogue will surge to about 2000 RPM when you start, and go down immediately (how low it goes it based on the temperature of the engine - as it gets warmer the idle goes down).
- I think my idle is about 700RPM
- Turning stuff on should decrease idle temporarily because there is an increased load on the engine. The idle however should return to normal.
- If you find your car is stuttering then there is something going on, it should be able to hold the idle on it's own.

That said, it sounds like you have a slight idle issue. Typically cars have a controller for the idle that tells the car how to adjust the idle. I am sorry, I am not sure what the name of it is for the Rogue. However, you may also want to look at starting your search for cleaning the MAF/TB:

mine has the identical symptoms. its party the electronic programming to keep the fuel economy better, and our strange transmission.
we have a slightly different torque converter setup than most, thus having strange lock-up times, disengagement times, etc. also the a/c compressor causes rough idle. honestly if they tuned the RPM to sit at 750-800 rpm, this would stop happening. but they keep the rpm low to use less fuel.

i think a MAF cleaning might help, but i dont know how much.
