Because of the mileage/price, I was thinking about taking a look at this car. I'm not a collision expert. Is this the type of damage that can be repaired well or not? Only the right head airbag deployed.

well idk why but your links arent opening up... but i have bought 2 altimas hat were salvaged (05 2.5, and an 08 2.5 coupe) neither have had any problems so not all salvaged cars are bad. let me give you some points from what ive learned

first of all, salvaged titles now a days are given out like candy canes in christmas time. ANY sort of recorded fender bender gets a salvage so most will be ok.

second, there are ALOT of shops that buy these salvaged cars and replace a few things on it to bring it back to new and then sell it for a big turn around (i worked at one for 2 summers which is also where i got my 2 cars) so most of the cars are good

a few things to look out for:
1. deployed airbags.. they usually are a good sign that it was more than a fender bender
2. how straight it drives.. if you go on a test drive try to go on the freeway and if you get any sort of veering dont assume it only needs an alignment (proly frame damage)
3. warranties... make sure where ever you get it from gives you a warrantee. like if you find anything wrong with the car they will take it back or fix it.

so shopping for salvage car isnt bad you just have to know what your looking for. hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions just let me know or just reply.. good luck :dblthumb: and good choice with an altima :dblthumb:

and I would like to add.. salvage/rebuilt title vehicles are cheap to buy but sometimes can be pain in the a** to sell. thats is why most salvage/rebuilt title vehicle go on sale for such low price because people just skeptic about buying a car like this. Good luck man

My 2010 was wrecked. I had to threaten litigation against my insurance company just so they would acknowledge all that needed to be repaired. Rebuilt cars are usually done to a bare-minimum standard. It could be great, but it could also be a bag of surprises. There is something to be said for peace of mind-and that's why this one is cheap.

I might just go look for the hell of it. At least I know where the damage occurred. Might be nice enough to have a dealership, or my mechanic, look at it.

Make sure you pay attention to how the panels line up and the colour of the paint. If that all looks good, it is at leasts an indication that they did the repairs properly. Any frame damage? Make sure you find out if it was actually measured on a frame jig. If they say 'no' to frame damage but can't validate that, I would be weary.

Never buy a salvaged car unless you have an expensive car/SUV and you wanna use it as a daily driver. My bro bought a Scion Tc that rolled over in an accident. Its the loudest clunkiest thing I've ever seen, body panels are not flesh, headlights are unbalanced, tail lights fog up.

The only good thing about some salvaged cars, like my bros, is that his engine is good, healthy and strong with low miles. So sometimes salvaged can be good if it has a strong engine and you dont care for all the other stuff. But otherwise I'd never go salvaged
