Incorrect... there is no federal emissions on that engine.

Incorrect... there is no federal emissions on that engine. Plus the S15 chassis has had 0 crash testing.

yes, you can get it registered... depending on who you know and what not.

BUT, that doesn't mean that you will be able to re-register it in your state...

You can register a 747 for highway usage with enough money and enough contacts. Doesn't mean it's legal, or that it's going to be easy.

I once spoke with a sales rep. from motorex who told me it costs $20-30K for them to covert a skyline to US compliance. And thats if you already have the car in US soil. If thats the case, legit S15's should cost $50k.

The following is taken directly from Motorex's site:There are ways to import vehicles into the US. Normally they are imported as substaincially similar to a US model. Then what happens is anything that is different between the US DOT legal vehicle and the vehicle from overseas would need to be changed to be the same as a US model. For example - headlights , tailights , mph speedometer cluster. The DOT no longer accepts right hand drive cars as being substaincially similar to the US model unless the manufacturer provides information to the DOT stating the vehicles are substancially similar. Additionally the engine in the vehicle must be available in the US or the engine must be certified for the US.

last year i remember reading about a company in Florida that was planning to legally import/convert S15's just like Motorex. I wonder if this auction is related to them. There was also another company in the southwest US that was planning to legally import /convert Lancer Evo 7's, but that was before Mitusbishi decided to sell the 8 themselves.

I knew a guy who imported a LHD lancer evo 6 to Mexico (from New Zealand), then drove across the border with US plates on. The customs guys were only concerned about drugs and produce. They didnt give a hoot about the car itself.

If you wanna try importing a JDM car, hit these guys uphttp://www.j-garage.com/index.html

Here's another S15 the same seller has up for bid.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...=WDVW

A few weeks ago there was a JDM S14 Silvia for sale in Washington State. The owner claimed it was legit in that state (documents provided)http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...&rd=1

The main reason that no true silvia can be registered legally is the simple fact that they are not crash tested. Every vehicle motorex, rb motoring, ect sales is a crah tested chassis vehicle done in japan. If you try to register the car, even with the original paperwork from japan onm the car, the dmv will reposses the car on the spot!!!!!!! It's happened to a couple of people that have tried it. Also, to legally get the car in the county, you have to sign paperwork that simply states that the car cannot be registered , driven on public roads, or sold in the U.S. i agree that if you have enough money anything is possible to a point but to do so you have to swap vin#s(federal offense) and register car under the us 240 vin's. not to mention that a sr in a 240 won't pass emissions without some finagling. probably the reason the person who posted the car for sale did not list the vin #s. I think it's bull**** but that is life, so either invest your money in a right hand conversion or worry every day that you will go to jail and have a heafty fine once you get out.

As I recall, Motorex has expressed ZERO interest in importing and doing the crash testing, emissions stuff, etc. for the S chassis cars. If anyone is gonna do it, it's not going to be Motorex.

Yeah, I think they figure they've got a niche market and they're going to stick with it and concentrate their resources on what's been working for them. Better to do one thing really well than two things half-assed.
