I'm in a debate with myself right now on what to do. If I use my RB x-member for my swap. Later on, can I use a cherry picker and jacks to support the motor while it is still in my car and switch crossmembers and use a mount kit instead to move it back. Reasons being I want to start the break in process and get the motor in my car, and I can use the money I already saved for the mount kit on stuff that I need to get anyway that now I wont have to save for. Catch my DRIFT??? LOL. Nevermind. I would like someone with lots of experiance to reply like Mack from Mckinney for example i.e. Someone who knows what there talking about. I assume its possible and also know I need to mess with power steering lines.

YES, ITS POSSIBLE AS THATS WHAT I'M DOING..... JUST START WITH THE transmission CROSSMEMBER THEN WORK FORWARD.

I don't have "lots" of experience but I did the RB25DET swap into my 92 240 using mckinney mounts. I can think of only one thing that you will need to do to make that work later. You have to make a small dent in the firewall to clear the starter when you use the mckinney mounts. You wouldn't be able to do it once you had the motor in, so make sure you make the dent when you put the motor in using the RB x-member.

Yes, your 90 PS lines are probably on the wrong side. trip to the junkyard will fix you up.

The easy solution later on when you want to switch to mounts would be to buy a later 240 X-member that has all the PS lines already on it. then install the mounts, hoist the engine, drop the RB x-member out and bolt the new one in place.

I'm not going to use mckinney mounts, no offence mack.. Too much. I'm going with the N7R kit and you don't need to dent thhe fire wall. Here's the real question. Instead of modifing the d/s twice what is the minimum I can shorten it to accomidate the rb x-member and when I do the switch I can still use it?

Also if you plan on installing a fmic you might have to redo piping. For power steering with the rb x-member you gotta bend the hard lines. Then when you switch to a mount kit, your have to either bend back the lines or buy the lines from someone. For the Driveshaft... guess you gotta find out what kind of leeway you have for the length, within an 1 inch, 2 inches, etc..

Something to think about, if you don't have to dent the firewall (which I can tell you from experience is no big deal), then the mounts must only be moving the engine down and not back. Down may get you hood clearance, but down and back also helps with weight distribution. My car handles really well with the RB25DET so and fits well. So if it cost me a little more, I can live with it.

my 2 cents, buy whatever you like.

I finally got around to posting pics here, so you can check them out under Member's Rides > NISMO_RB25 to see the completed instal of an RB25DET into a 92 240 SX with Mckinney mounts and driveshaft.

Please excuse my ricer blue vacum hoses, it was what I had at the time.

IT ONLY GOES BACK AN INCH OR SO.... WHICH ON THE RB20DET IF IT GOES DOWN FAR ENOUGH IT DOESN'T HAVE TO DENT THE FIREWALL. I DON'T KNOW HOW DIFFERENT THE STARTER BUBBLE IS ON THE RB25DET transmission BUT ON THE RB20 IT WILL CLEAR THE FIREWALL WITHOUT A PROBLEM.

MACK DO YOUR KITS INCLUDE THE UPPER ENGINE MOUNTS? OR IS IT A CROSSMEMBER ADAPTER AND INSULATOR?

It is adapters and new mounts(rubber isolators) for the engine and a new trans crossmember and new mount....for the trans..
