I have sitting in my room this Sony "complete car audio package" deal with two 6x9s, two 6.5s, and a deck. It's out of the box so here's a picture of everything....

I was wondering if the components were decent (speakers) and worth using. I'd be upgrading the deck to a nice touchscreen or an alpine cd player and most likely a sub too. What do you think? And btw, how do you get 6x9s to fit into the back of a hatch where the old ones go (not the privacy cover).

I would buy OEM speakers over Sony, but then again I'm going off of knowledge from 3 years ago. Their reliability in the decks might have gone up.

You can't fit 6 x 9's in the rear of an s13 hatch, w/o cutting/modding/fabricating.

You going to run the speakers off of an amp?

*edit*I noticed those aren't component speakers so ignore my amp question.

My overall opinion, no. How much is it going for anyway?

Is there a write up on the 6x9s fitting?

Idk much about putting in stereos, I'd need help installing mine. I pretty much just know the basics.

Btw, they're going for like $100 so I'm pretty skeptical as to the quality. I got this new for $80 but I think it was "hot." I see the deck alone go for like almost $85 alone though.

That stuff is the cheapest of the cheapest. But hey, if you only got $80 and need a stereo system, then you don't have many options.

Yeah it was supposed to be for my dad's old Cherokee but he's too lazy to put it in and make it fit so I thought I'd throw it in the sil40. I want a decent system so I'll probably not be using any of this stuff now. Nothing too radical, maybe about $700-$800 at the most.

You might be getting a sale from me in a few months Broadfield.

Btw, what size speakers do you have in your coupe?

I look forward to doing business with you!

I have 6.5" components up front and 6.5" coax in the rear. I don't even have the rears hooked up...... not necessary when you are running loads of amplified power to high quality components.

What's the difference between component & coax? Sorry noob question.

And also, would I even want to bother putting in any 6x9s if I was going to run a sub? I enjoy bass but not anything overkill.

the component speakers have the tweeter seperated from the mid range speaker. it also has a cross over to only allow certain freq. to go through the tweeter, so that it doesnt damage it and gives better SQ.

i dont think it would add much bass, but it would be too much trouble to fit those 6x9's in the rear. i'd return them and get the proper fit of speakers.

So you're saying I should keep the 4x6s round back? Is there a template for 6.5s? I bet I could probably make one, it can't be that hard. I know I've got the tools.

And plus, I'm relocating the battery to the back so that should make the sub & amp install that much easier. Coolio.

Now I just need some money.....

I was gonna switch the fronts to 6.5s. Is that not a good idea? What should I go with for the backs?

You can get 6.5" adaptors on ebay for like 15 bucks shipped for the doors. That's what i did and i did a set of infinity kappas since i get them for cheap as balls through my work, as well as an alpine f300 to them.

Or you can get a set of 6.5"s from broadfield and i believe he throws a set of adaptors in as well. That's what he did with my friend when he ordered some stuff for his car.

I need to bug broadfield about the price of a JL cleansweep, but I think I'll do that when I have money to spend.

Yep, I throw the adapters in with the purchase of door speakers.

^ Your adapters/templates will work for the rears right (hatch) or would I be better off with the 4x6s?

i belive their is a opening big enough for the 6x9 if you remove the rear paneling you just need to make a mounting plate.for it.

Well, I've got some time to deicide and/or save up some money. Right now I'm focused on getting it painted and other mechanical odds and ends. I get my license when I turn 16 in June so I'll have a little bit of time. Idk, we'll see, hopefully I can find a job so I can get a real setup.

I can't believe you guys even run rear speakers.

I don't sit in my back seat, and they are not needed if you power your fronts.

Get some good components up front, and use an amp to power them. Along with a good sub and you are good to go!!!

True the rears aren't really needed, but I like to have them. Since I have a sedan, I like letting the people in the rear hear the music as well. I transport alot of people.
