found a 78 z this afternoon. it seems to be in decent shape, with a bit of surface rust on the car. just a little underneath, as well as a bit above the livense plate under the hatch. the car seems to be pretty solid, purrs like a cat, but needs a valve adjustment. he has removed the fi and put a four barrel holley carb and intake mani on the car. car runs a bit rich, but its not bad. interior is in good shape, don't see any water leaks.

He has been in the process of restoring the car, and has fixed the lighting-they are brighter than my maxima! He has redone the brakes as well, but may have a pressure leak somewhere in the hard lines. it has drums on the back-how hard is it to change it to rear discs? the shifter feels a bit sloppy, but it goes into gear fine. i was unable to drive it today, as it had a flat. He also has a parts car that may go with it. I am gonna drive it and make a decision after the fact. Any suggestions on other things to look for? Any particular issues with this year model? is there a way to remove the sloppiness from the shifter?

he is asking 1200 for the car and a parts car...is it worth my time?

Thanks

Mike

one of the shifter bushings might be missing... changing the rear to a disc conversion isnt that hard, you can use the rear brakes frmo a turbo 280ZX, look around on Z forums, people sell these kits all the time... Sounds like a bargain to me with a parts car

Thanks man...What are some good places to look for parts, and good forums to look at for info, besides this one?

Thanks

Mike

the shifter being sloppy is just the shifter bushing being worn, all you have to do is replace it, its not hard I think

If it runs and it's not too rusty take it. these are great cars. I've had three. They are fun cars and pretty damn reliable. There is a ton of stuff you can do with these cars. Check out http://www.zcar.com for info.
