I've been driving only in the day with my newly installed CA18 and didn't notice this at first cause my windows have been down due to the recently heat hear in Socal. Last night I took the car out at night to visit my GF and I noticed that I can hear the turbo spinning its moderatly loud. Is this normal, I have a gracer intake so I'm thinking that I can only hear the turbo because of install of an intake usually the intake is louder, but this is my first turbo motor so I'm not sure. This is what I have on my car:

intakeECU tuned for boost increase , intake, exhaustexhaust

Thanks,kim

yep, the turbo can be quite loud. your boost has raised a bit if you have a full 3" exhaust. just get used to the sound

Thanks Hank, I was worried that no oil is getting to the turbine or something. Good to know Its normal.

Want loud? Run as short on intake as possible and an open 3" downpipe. At first I thought it would be cool, but I've now lost hearing.

what kinda turbo noise do you hear??? I mean is it a high pitched scrapping noise??? if so then you have a bad CA or SR turbo, also do check if you do have oil cycling thru the turbo....

How do you check if its cycling oil?

I hear a whirling sound not scrapping or grinding just moderatly load whirlling.

I hear whirling too. I can hear the sound of the air rushing out of the turbo, as well as the high pitched sound of it spinning. No big deal. As long as you don't hear something like taking key to door, you're probably fine.

Turbo's make noise. It's OK. Have you ever driven next to a big semi? Some of them are turbo-desil's and they make all sorts of "spooling" sounds. I think it's cool. But regardless, unless it's a metallic sound, you're fine and I would just come to love it, like me.
