Hey nico got a quick question, with a video! Do 240s always bog down when the automatic belts retract? Or turn the headlights on? Here's what I'm talking about:

Thanks nico!!

I assume it'd be normal for most(older?) cars...You're putting extra load on the alternator however small it may be. Personally I've never noticed it before, I'll have to pay attention tomorrow when i start her up :gotme Btw, I work at a Sears auto center and load test vehicles charging systems multiple times a day, and on almost every car I test, I see some sort of reaction to the extra load on the alt. ex. dimming dash lights, Drop in rpms, it all seems pretty normal for any car to me :bigthumb:

Awesome so nothing to worry about. But i did replace the stock 80amp alternator with the quest mini van's 110amp! So shouldn't that make any difference??

Well it's still charging at ~14v and just because your alt. can put out 110a doesn't mean that the device you're charging will draw 110a...make sense? Keep in mind I'm absolutely not an electrical guru, just going off of what I know, whether right or wrong. IMO though the upgraded alt. is kind of a waste of time because the whole electrical system in the 240 is set up to draw no more than 80a yeah? :gotme

Well I can see where your coming from! But the quest alt is actually cheaper then the stock one so it kinda pays off both ways! But thanks anyways, I might get manual seat belts and put those on for a cleaner look! :)

This happens to me; I've got a new battery and a good alternator. I believe it's normal.

the higher amp alternator won't do much for you if your car is bone stock, because as stated before, the car won't draw more amperage than the stock alternator is rated at... buuuuut If you're running stuff like dual electric fans, a butt load of gauges, aftermarket stereo, etc. the 110 amp alt. will be beneficial. but back to the op's question, sounds normal to me. mine does it too.

My car used to drop very slightly in rpm whenever I turned on headlights and stuff, but the Quest alternator got rid of that.

Well I actually got 2 efans and aftermarket head unit with a amp! Im planning on getting a 1000watt amp so it'll help! But just a quick question where else should I add grounds? I grounded the intake Mani to the firewall, replaced the old rusted ground wire from the head to firewall with a new 4gauge wire! Any place else I should add a ground?

Well i actually got it to stop dropping rpms when i turn the headlights on! If you want to too, just pop the hood and look between the rad support and the front bumper, you'll see two grounds on both sides right next to both headlights. I think there for the motor that pops the lights up and what not! Take the grounds off clean the area and taking something that sharpens tools and use it to clean off the o connector. Now you shouldn't see any drops in the rpms! Oh also if your bolts are a little rusted, i would suggest replacing them. Oh and i did the same for the ground that's on the driver strut tower, right by the BMC. Now its all better :bigthumb: !
