I have a 2008 G37S with 3500 miles on it. Since I've gotten it it's been making a banging sound when disengadging the clutch. I've taken it in 3 times only to hear Infiniti service tell me "It's normal noise from the dual-mass flywheel". It's gotten louder since day 1, and it's now doing it on almost every push of the clutch except neutral. It's also starting to do it when I engadge the clutch, but it isn't as loud.

Here's a link to a video that has the sound I'm talking about:

Is this a normal noise? It is LOUD, and getting louder.....

I've got maybe 400 miles on mine and I can't say I hear any such noise when disengaging the clutch. My truck has a dual mass flywheel and it doesn't make noise either. I do think the engagement has taken a bit to get used to but it has been knock free. The upside is you do have a warranty and you have started a paper trail by bringing it in for the issue so when it lets go they can't say you abused the clutch and it's your problem.

Well all I can tell you is that mine does the same thing. I mainly hear it when I down shift to first or just when I'm slowing down and down shifting.

Interesting. Is yours that loud? Is the sound identical?

I actually had the same noise when shifting hard from 1st to 2nd at above 4-5k rpm. It would only happen when I was pushing it hard, on a cold day, and if it was less than 20 mins since I started the car. I figured it was a grabby clutch, which I understand that it is more of a heavy duty, grabbier clutch than on most cars from what I've read. After wearing in the clutch surface a bit ( I have 3200 miles on my G37S now) it has completely gone away. I've also found that some people with BMW 335i's were saying the same thing was going on with their cars. Try not smashing the clutch pedal so hard and feathering it from time to time, and not always shifting at such a high rpm point. But either way, if it keeps happening, the dealer should do something about it under warranty.

Mine makes the noise ONLY after the car has warmed up for 20 minutes, and it does it at any RPM above idle. I have 3600 miles on my car, and the noise is getting louder & more frequent as time goes on. I'm wondering if the noise is the same, but the cause is different. I can predict when it's about to start happening because there's a lot more noise that starts happening from the transmission, and shifting becomes sloppy. Then I just start hearing the noise every time I shift.

Wow sounds worse than mine. Mines only on the down shift as I'm slowing down

Well the car is now at the dealer. I drove the service manager around and he claimed it was my shift timing, and that if I didn't want the noise I should just shift differently.................. I did make a cd with the sound on it and played that for the servicec advisor, and he only said "Wow, it makes that sound?" That was nice to hear

They're going to take a look at it, I'll let you guys know what they say.
