ok so I have an s13 redtop sr and tonight when I was driving I put 100 octane race gas in went driving for a while kinda pushing it hard for a while then went home let it cool down for 30 min came back out my friend tried to start the car and when he was giving it gas to start the car he feathered the throttle and it didnt start so he tried again and he made the starter grind and car still didnt start so I went over and started the car and drove away but then the motor started making a knocking noise.

Now whenever I start the car up it makes the noise it sounds like lifter tick or I snapped a rocker arm but im not 100% sure on it so I created a video that you can hear if you know what it is please let me know because I dont want to drive my car like this so I dont have a car until this problem is fixed.

Heres the link to the video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEEzuHs6Dgo

That does not sound very happy. Did you bump up the boost or were your running the engine higher in RPM? If it is valve train, you'll be able to see it with the cover off. If it's a rod bearing, you'll be able to feel a clunk if you put a breaker bar on the crank bolt and turn it forward and back a few degrees. Good luck, I hope it isn't too broken.

How about doing some of your own diagnosing? Noises can sound pretty general over the computer. In person its easier to hear where exactly. If it sounds like its coming from the head, pull the valve cover as a first step just to see if there is anything abnormal in there.

Yeah I just got done pulling the valve cover and I took that timing chain guide off (the one inbetween the two cam shafts).

The rocker arms and valves and everything else under the valve cover look fine so I am gonna run a compression test to see if the motor is still good and if not I guess time to rebuild.

Compression test won't let you know if there is a bad bearing, so that is probably a waste of time. Put a breaker bar on the crank bolt and see if you can feel any play.

sounds like a bearing. I recently had a rocker go and it wasnt a consistent knock like a bearing would be. It was just every now and then and wouldnt go past a certain rpm.

Yeah I'm going to try the breaker bar tomorrow and see if anything is cluncking around in there I don't know how I could have spun a bearing tho because I have lots of oil in the car I just did a full oil change like 2 weeks before that noise started to happen and I checked the oil and there's still a lot left in the motor.

Did you ever diagnose this?

I suspect I have screwed the bottom end bearings mine is making the same noise ( all the noise comes from the head but no visable damage )

Yeah I was going to say it is a Rod knock. A lifter tick isn't that loud and usually goes away with high oil pressure
