Is this dude crazy?

Hey guys a friend of mine recently picked up a 97 Kouki, its got over 170K miles on it, its an auto, and drivetrain wise is bone stock other than either a J30 or 300Z LSD. I found this out only by having to put an axle in it for him and when i ordered the axle it was a 3 2 bolt flange and the diff has 5 bolt outputs, so this is the only reason even he knows it has this rear end. It has Megan racing coilovers and front and rear stbs (yea, I know) and it is friggin slammed. The car has a good bit of issues, lots of little mechanical odds and ends like rack boots, brakes, said axle (which I still can't find one for it), and the worst part is the car would need to be repainted and a lot of dents and dings taken out too.

Now I'm not clueless when it comes to these cars but idk every last thing like a lot of you guys do so I'm here for some thoughts. I want to trade him my car for his straight up no cash involved (link zer...cobra) Now he is trying to tell me he would need cash and from what hes saying hes talking like 1500 dollars on top. Does this sound right? I'm not here to get him flamed I just want to know if I'm right in assuming that this would be a horrible trade. If you hate Mustangs and want to joke about how it would be a horrible trade for him and not me you can save it, I love Nissans and always have so no hate for brands in this thread is necessary.

Forgot to mention the car needs 2 tires, and the front and rear wheels dont match, it has 2 sets of gray 7 spokes but they arent the same style and the RF wheel has a huge bend in it and all 4 wheels have curb checks at the least. Its basically a rust free Kouki that runs and drives with a solid dash thats why I want it LOL. It also has a racing seat made for a 6 yr old asian girl for a drivers seat and the seatbacks for the backseat are missing. Think the trunk is gutted too

From the sounds of it, tell your friend YOU want $1500 on top. Thats a hella clean mustang and from your description of the S14 it sounds like alot of work.

Or sell your Mustang out right & buy a clean 240 with that money.

Haha, thanks for the compliment man. Hes not gonna budge, so I doubt I'll even try. Only thing that sucks about selling out right is I really dont wanna sell it local and people on the net always lowball you so bad its like an insult.

I wouldn't do it personally. That looks like a pretty nice cobra. I wouldn't even do a straight trade, almost sounds like he would need to give YOU money. Im not even that huge of a fan of mustangs but yours sounds way nicer than his car. You are right in thinking its a bad trade. I think you can get a way nicer car if you play the waiting game. Thats just my opinion though. Good luck with your decision.

Thats my problem dude I'm so impatient, I hate waiting. I've wanted a 240 for a good while now and I always get this urge to trade my car for one, guess I was just seein stars cause here was this kouki in my town that I could have today if he actually wanted to trade.

Dude I know it sucks, I waited about 3 years trying to find the right car for me. Cars always came up when I was broke as a joke, and when I had money up the a**, they were nowhere to be found. I finally got my 240 in really good condition for about half of what I expected to pay. So in the end I was glad I waited and i'm sure you will be too. It will drive you crazy but the wait is worth it.

only way you should even trade him is if hes giving you a few k on top. deff more then 1500. from the sounds of it and without pics the 240 sounds beat up and prolly not worth to much. kouki or not. if that's a true cobra, and having the irs in it you can deff get a nice amount of cash for it. i used to be into mustangs still kinda am (ive had two foxbodys). toss it up on the mustang forums and online is probably your best bet and wait it out and get what its really worth. get your cash go buy a 240 and toss some money into and it will turn out nicer then his. but damn your cobra is so clean

Thanks man I appreciate it, the only problem is on Mustang sites most everyone turns their nose up at cobras anymore unless they're the 03/04 terminators. If you ask a dime more than 5K for anything other than an extremely low mileage rare color SN most everyone would just assume spit in your face before considering buying your car. Such is life I guess. I may throw a for sale sign on it and see what happens, I just want the car to go far away, cause I'll cry if someone stupid buys it and beats all to hell and then i have to see it all the time.

sell the cobra and buy an s14.if you have emissions, go for a 95 and use extra money from your cobra sale to do the kouki front, with the jdm bumper of course

id toss it up and see what happens. someone out there will give you what youd ask for it. theres always a buyer for every car, as long as you are patient and can wait it out. and hell even look for 240s for sale/trade and see if someone would trade you for one. in better shape then your friends. you never know.

you have way more car than a banged up 240. I wouldnt trade for anything less than a clean S14 with an SR or equivalent already in it.

i had to play the waiting game for a good while myself (shoppin for an s13 hatch) came across a chic selling a vert for 3K , the thing was tarribly haggard, rota p45r's with the worst curb rash ever, had origin knock off but was trashed, leaked, roof was a mess, roof motor didnt work, was primered, had kouki front end but she wrecked so it now had chuki just hangin by ties, interior was hideous and rear view mirror was hanging....almost handed her the cash when i came out and said "im sorry i just cant" and walked away she got pissed....found my chuki couple weeks later for 3K....super happy i waited...that car is still for sale lol its been about 4 months...she wouldnt budge at 3K.....sad .

i think i made out tho, full sound system, two 10's in the hatch, lil drop on springs, decent wheels, new paint, dual cam swap, 5 speed conv. , everythin power works, CAI, had ok exhaust. nice interior

It's funny when people don't realize they're asking an unreasonable amount for what their car is really worth. Well, that's how ignorance works anyway so just move on and leave him and his 240 alone. hopefully he'll wake up soon or find some idiot to buy it. But as for you, take your clean as a whistle mustang elsewhere.

Oh and like everyone else says, wait for the right car to find you. as cliche as it sounds, you can believe on it. i know all too well about rushing to buy a car, only to have it turn into a piece of dodo a month later. well in your case you already know what the car needs, but still, it's not the car for you if he isn't gonna realize he would be getting the better end of the deal. good luck on your 240 wait. im also in the waiting game too, waiting on funds to pick up either a zenki, kouki or coupe.

Ok update time, I found a guy locally who has a 95 S14 with a blacktop SR20 and rb20 trans? I dont know much about that transmission but he also said it has a custom one piece drive shaft and some other stuff. He says it makes 396hp to the wheels on 16 lbs. I'm not sure of the torque number or what octane gas that was, but it sounds a tad high to me (maybe I'm wrong .)

Anyhow, he came to look at my car today and really likes it, I have not seen his car in person yet but I know there are a few things about it i dont like. First is its a 4 lug car, I HAVE TO HAVE 5 lug LOL. Not worried about the swap but thats a guaranteed few hundred dollars I'd have to spend ASAP if we were to trade. It also needs to have the front end painted. These 2 things make me kinda iffy about the car. I know the guy who did the swap for the previous owner and he is a stand up guy and knows his ish for sure so the motor to my knowledge is sound. But if the car is really making as much power as he says I think it would be a great base to start with. I will hold final judgment til I see it though. So what say you nico? Thoughts, suggestions?

I can tell you that hes most likely not telling the truth about the HP numbers. Unless he has a good amount of work done to it. Ask to see a dyno sheet
