Car: 93 240 Black Hatch

Post

Hey, I'm still in the market for buying a 240sx and once again have found a 240sx that i'm unsure of. Its a 93 hatch 5spd that was originally red but is painted black. the frame rails are mint but one is kinda bent.

The Goods:
it has Nex? suspension, magnaflow exhaust, AEM intake, some kind of headers, NGK wires, Mishimoto radiator, a racing seat, and a front strut bar.

The Bads:
it has rust on the hatch like every other se 240, the engine needs a timing chain fix and/or a head gasket. the only place with rust though is the hatch it has a 3in diameter rust hole, so id probably just buy a new hatch or learn to weld. other then that its pretty clean

even though it doesnt run its literally 5 seconds from my house so i could push hit home. lol. the guy wanted 1500, i offered 1300 and he said he would think about it. should i buy it and redo timing chain/head gasket or just walk away?

thanks.

anyone else think its odd theres rust on the hatch and nowhere else?
invest in a magnet.

imo a non running 20 year old car is only worth 1k or LESS.

bersh, how is it odd that theres no rust any where else? ive checked the entire car and the only rust is from the SE wing that was taken off.

did you check the strut towers and frame rails? and yea you probably SHOULD get a magnet and cloth, so you dont scratch the paint, and go over the whole car, just to be safe... you never know what they could be hiding.. after all, it IS a 17 year old car...

I just find it hard to believe it only rusted on the hatch. Esp since u said it was a 3 inch spot. I wouldnt bother welding and puttying that hatch. Just get another one.
And a magnet can help u find rust thats hiding beneath undercoating, paint, and yes it finds putty spots.

No car ever need just a head gasket.... chances are the head needs milling or replacement. No running car with rust, black over red 400-700 bucks.

Actually, OutToWinPAHC, a car CAN need just a head gasket, but its pretty rare. you'd have to shut the car off right away, and most people neglect to do that.
But MOST of the time the heads will need milling or replacement...
BUT, OP, It's worth what YOU think its worth. a car worth 700 to someone could be worth thousands to another.

Save your money and buy a better car(at least one that runs) and get a car that is the original color not some halfa**ed respray job.

If it ran yes he is at a good selling point. The labor on either HG or timing chain, makes it worth less than a G. How ever if you were buying it as a shell I'd pay $500 tops for a pretty stock S13 shell.

Its up to you. Do you feel like doing a motor swap? another KA that isn't crap. Then you could have the other motor out for rebuild. and Turbo.

well, guys, don't forget the mods done to the car. id say find out the value of those and add it to what you would pay for a regular shell... and do any OEM parts that were taken off come with it, OP?

Also, there's no such thing as frame rails on a unibody car.

well, the kid that was selling it said nvm, and his brother said he'll sell me his for the same price, this one is also 93 hatch, automatic, has 130k miles, and it runs..its completely stock, ill prob end up picking it up cause ive looked at about 15 240s...and theyve all been around 1k and are complete s***, so for what ive been looking at this is a good deal. thanks for all the feedback. and what would the name be if its not frame rails?
