Lately I have been racing everybody. I have been rev pass 5K rpm alot. Is this really bad for the car? It is getting to be my habit now. If it is really bad for the car, then I need to change my habit a bit.

Thanks

It's gotta be worse than driving at a reasonable speed but what are you gonna do? You don't go to Hawaii to sit in the hotel all day!!

I'd say as long as you're doing these WOT runs after the car is warmed up you'll probably be OK. These cars (or at least the G50 version) are designed to run at WOT! Now, if you're doing this before the engine and transmission aren't fully warmed - that's a different story.

True....

If its not done when its warmed up then damage could be/is happening.... When its warm, its almost BETTER for the car to be WOTd than it is to be just pooped around town all day...

When the roads are clear, my Q sees WOTs daily (average), but most times it sees SEVERAL WOTs in 1st and 2nd!! And I complain about my gas mileage!!! :)

On weekends my Q's see redline several times during week above 6k often.

Just change your oil often + use quality stuff.Change your transmission fluid too and put in transmission cooler if you dont have one.

No reaon to be afarin of using the engiune.

Running them hard is good for cleaning otu combustion chamber.

it's not bad for the car. In fact, I think the ECU learns the way you drive the car. When my parents owned the car and drove mostly local miles, the car was very sluggish and wouldn't accelerate on the highway. After I got it from them, I take it over 5K rpm all the time and do 100mph+ blasts on barren highways. Now the car is more responsive. I know that WOT cleans out alot of the buildup that accumulates in the fuel system and stuff like that.

Why would Nissan build a V8 with a 6800 rpm redline if it was meant to be driven below 5K rpm???

Correct on all counts.

Although, keep in mind that this kind of driving is best left to the track (or at least the freeway, where everyone's going the same direction).

Q's don't stop on a dime.

That used to be call the "Italian Tune-Up", or, where I grew up, "Blowing the gunk out". Either way, the cops never accepted it as a reasonable excuse.

My Q is always happiest at redline. Ride her hard and put her away wet.

Probably one of the greatest sounds (IMO) on the Q is that little click that you hit when you hit the clickdown swtich, and it just goes crazy!!!

Only if the medal is under your throttle pedal and attached to your metal firewall.

It should actually be pedal to the plastic (in the Q) or pedal to the carpet.....
