I just got this from a neighbor the other day. I've emailed Turbonetics to help me identify the turbo. Can anyone confirm that this is a T3/T4?

Thanks for the help!

You can clearly see the size difference.

The T4 flange is much larger than that. I went to the JGS Precision Turbo website:

http://www.jgstools.com/turbo/index2.html

After reviewing the site, I believe that it is a T3 flange. It's the compressor I am not too sure about. I did compare it to a RB26 T28 as it does have a T3 Compressor housing so I am more inclined to believe that the Turbonetics unit is a hybrid T3/T4.

Anyone care to comment?

Check out the flanges. The T28 is on the left.

Here's a turbo to turbo comparison pic.

When I took the Turbonetics compressor off, the compressor wheel was huge. Not something I would expect to see on a normal T3, even with the largest Garrett trim available.

yeah the compressor is definitly a T04B compressor with 7 blades. the turbine is from a T3 as well. so yeah i'm 95% sure that its a T04B/T3 turbo.

edit: just looked look at the size of the blades, it looks like a S trim compressor 9 the smaller one. take the housing off. a S trim will have the minor compressor diameter of 1.9 inches, and the V trim will have a minor diameter of 2.2 inches, and the H trim will have a minor diameter of 2.3 inches.

Where did you get your wheel inducer and exducer measurements from? Just need to know as a reference for trim identification. Thanks for the info. I will have to open up the compressor again and take some measurements.

Thanks for your help!

Not sure where the serial number would be located, however, I do see some numbers on the inside part of the compressor outlet. 20192 is what it reads.

You've got mail.

Based on the number on the compressor, the Turbonetics website identifies the compressor as a T04B housing.

http://www.turboneticsinc.com/pa_comphous.htm

Trim type/size is likely an H due to the size referenced in IWannaS15's link.

H Trim Major diameter = 2.750"Super H Trim Major diameter = 3.00"

According to my neighbor, this turbo was used on a 81'-82' 280ZX Turbo. It was an upgrade from the standard T3.

Yeah. I was surprised when I saw how large the compressor wheel was. I will take some pics of the wheel when I get the compressor housing off.

Based on the link you referenced (thanks, by the way ), and using the serial number on the compressor housing, I see that the H Trim wheel is used for the T04B housing.

Referring back to the same turbo, I have yet to find out what kind of turbine housing and trim I have. All I know is that I have a standard T3 flange. There is also a number "2" stamped on the inside wall of the turbine inlet. The only other number I see is the a/r of .63.

Looks like T3/T04e or maybe a little bigger, what are the A/Rs?

It's a TO4B based on the serial number found on the compressor housing and it's corresponding reference in the Turbonetics online catalogue. It's an H-trim based on the size of the compressor wheel outer diameter size (information posted in a previous post). It's a T3 turbine simply based on the flange size. A/R of the turbine is .63.

Huh, I have a T04b and it doesn't look that big. Then again, I never sat it next to a T25.
