??? Is this a solid engine that can be built ???

Information on the naturally-aspirated KA24E and KA24DE engines.

Hello all,I thought i'd join to ask a few questions. Hope you don't mind.

My father-in-law has an old Sunbeam Alpine and wants to change the engine for some more power. (The original was a pig)

We've been told the Ford 2.8 V6 from a mustang would go in and works great but i'm not so convinced about the weight. The KA engine is about the only, relatively new, 4 cyl engine that's RWD in Mexico.

Firstly, i'd like to know if this is a very long (stroke) engine and if it's heavy (compared to an old 2.8 Ford V6).

Secondly, what kind of power can I expect from this engine and what can I expect to get with some mild work (has to stay reliable).

Thanks

Ford does not make a 2.8 V6.they do make a 3.8 V6 with a short stroke however.

The KA is a long stroke and thus low reving motor. It is also relatively heavy due to having an iron block.

the ka is relatively heavy for a 4cyl. but it is a very nicely designed engine, easy to work on, and is stout on torque and power. many datsun 510's have swapped the ka24e so that should speak for itself

btw: the internet is an amazing tool, research

Thanks aries,The Ford engine is an old one (late 70's early 80's) which is why i'm looking at the KA. Something a little newer.Since posting I have seen that this engine is still used in current model trucks from nissan and produces around 140HP.I'm a little concerned about the low revving but can you build this engine to reliably rev higher?Although it does have quite a lot of torque so maybe I could use a higher diff (4.22) to get the performance. If I sound a little confused it's because I am.Any help would be apreciated.

Devious,Thanks also,I've done a lot of looking on the net for conversions for this car and the only thing I come up with is the V6 ford. It's just to old for me.

Thanks,Cameron
