Hi Everyone, I thought I knew enough about the 1989-1994 GTR motor to be dangerous. But I saw this item on Ebay and I'm shaking my head. Can anyone identify this motor and tell me what it is? Is this a VG30 by chance?

it's being advertised as "89-94 Nissan GT-R OEM AWD 2.6L V6 Engine Motor w/ Auto Transmission"

That looks like a Nissan VG30, I know for a fact that it is NOT a RB26DETT because of the two sets of overhead cam gears.. RB's are inline 6 cylinders not V6.

It's definitely a 3L, it says it right on the plenum. Question is, what did it come out of? To my knowledge, all the Skyline GT-R's used RB's and the R35 GT-R's all used the VR38. So I very much doubt it's from any sort of GT-R (or at least not a production one). But the induction doesn't look right for a Z or Max, and if it's a turbo, it can't be a TT because there's only one inlet. The only thing I can find that resembles it is the VG30DET out of the Y31 Cima.

VStar you are amazing! I think you nailed it! And thank you both for your train of thought. Before you and Flartius weighed in, I thought maybe I had missed a huge part of the R32 backstory.

I just perused some Google pictures and searched with that description, and it is an exact match as far as my untrained eyes can see. Not that my opinion matters, but I'm seriously impressed! I suspect you aren't just an enthusiast, but you must be professionally connected to the industry in some fashion as well. Thank you again! :)

Your suspicions are well founded, I'm a Nissan tech. Guilty, Your Honor.
