is this a simple set up or will it require custom work that will be costly?

hey everyone, i got a mod idea last night and wanted to see what you guys thought it would take to make it work. i have an 01 qx4 and currently have a garmin streetpilot portable nav unit, but i've always wanted to have in dash nav/dvd just because it looks more flush and nicer. i have a double DIN opening which houses a pioneer deh-p5800mp head unit with an open slot for storage. i was thinking of removing that open slot and installing a flip out nav/dvd monitor and using it for nav/entertainment purposes only and leaving the pioneer as the music player. i would want the movie if i played a dvd to play through the car speakers so is there some complex wiring stuff that needs to be done for this to work, or is it as simple as just hooking up another head unit? has anyone done this and how much did it cost/how did it work out. lemme know thanks!

Ok, I think I understand what you're looking for.

It sounds like you need a HU with an Auxilary video input, or the flip out monitor has to have two video inputs.

One will be from the HU, the other from the nav unit.

Then just use your HU to play DVDs. The audio is already hooked up to the HU.

Note: You won't get surround sound. It'll be in stereo. If your HU has 5.1 preouts you can use a seperate amp to make it true surround sound though.
