im not familiar with Q45's i have two 240's and a maxima but anyways, i was looking around craigslist and stumbled upon this ad

http://kansascity.craigslist.o....html

does 1500 sound like a good deal? from the pics given it seems well taken care of, as far as the problem it has does anyone have a clue what it might have? i offreed him 500 for it and he said he will wait it out a bit. if anyone is looking for a q in the kansas/missouri area jump on this:)

Not so sure you could call obtaining any 15 year old used luxury car a "good deal" regardless of how low the upfront purchase price is {even free}- once you factor in true costs to restore mechanicals and factor in ongoing running costs.

From the owner's description the engine runs but cuts off after a minute or so. It's probably going to be MAF or fuel delivery (FPCU) related.

If the engine is stalling or seaching for a steady idle RPM then it's probably MAF related. Does the MAF connector wiggle up and down more than 1/8"? Pull off the connector and look at the pins. Any green corrosion? If you have it here it's on many other connections on the engine. Clean up the corrosion, tighten the pins (should look like the middle pin in the pic), coat with dielectric grease.

The owner has replaced the fuel pump but he could easily have waited too long and also damaged the FPCU. It's mounted under the rear deck and can be seen (and unplugged) through the trunk. It's in the background in the pic. Reach in and unplug the FPCU. Any signs of burning or melting? Bring an alligator clip jumper with you and jumper from the pin shown in the pic to a chassis ground. This will bypass the FPCU and run the fuel pump in high speed only. If this solves the problem you've got a bad FPCU.

Since the engine does start and run chances are darn good that it's one of these two things. Good luck.
