So today my neighbor was telling me about his friend that is trying to pawn some audio equipment because he needs the cash.

He said it's a Dual 12" dual sub box and a 2,000 watt Sony amp that he's selling for 150. I don't know the exact model numbers or the condition but I want to see what you guys think before I even tell him to bring it by so I can take a look at it. Is the 'Dual' brand good? I never heard of him.

At first I thought he meant 'dual' as in two... but he said, "Dual is the brand... but they are dual speakers."

Yes? No?

I called Rob to ask him but he didn't return my call.

I've heard of Dual before (pretty sure they sell them as their bargain subs at Best Buy or Circuit City). I've never been impressed with Sony amps. To be honest, there are much better budget amplifiers out there. If you're looking for a good system for cheap, I would go more this route:

Amp

Sub or Slightly Cheaper Sub

Then all you need is an enclosure. I know these options listed are more expensive than the $150 price you mentioned, but they will blow that out of the water. The subs are listed at an authorized retailer (meaning they have a warranty) and all the equipment is new (so you know it hasn't been abused). Plus, if we were to consider that Sony/Dual system to sound like $150, this would sound like nearly $1000. Just my opinion though.

Phone was off yesterday evening 'cause it was me and my wife's wedding anniversary....

my advice was this... For 2 subs, an amplifier, and a box, $150 is not a bad price... not that either Sony or Dual are top brands for car audio... but again, yo aren't designing a system, you'r inheriting one for cheap...

when i spoke 2 you this morning, you said its a fiberglass box.... fiberglass boxes are usually custom boxes, so it may not fit in your trunk.... to fit two 12" woofers, you will need to get a custom box made, and that can easily run you 150-200...... so now you're looking at $300-350... for a little more, we could put you into something that sounds a lot better.... its your call

you could do better for 150. look on craigslist. I'v never had experience with dual subs but I had a dual head unit once. It broke after a few months and I got it replaced under warranty, then the replacement broke after a few months as well.
