My driver side seat has a deformed back rest which is really annoying, so I'm looking for different seats. I found some 1996-98 cloth 240sx front seats for $180. Is that a good deal?

That is a tad high. Junkyard here wanted I think $75 for both but they were a little stained. I think $150 is about the highest I would go myself.

How about those fake racing seats from ebay? Sure they might look ricey but for the same cost you get new seats. Some of them really look good if they didn't have the stupid logos. I've sat in some of them and they are pretty supportive. Oh yeah did I mention NEW seats. I've even thought about putting those in my car if I didn't already bought some seats along time ago. Heres pros and cons

Pros:Cheap $180 gets you 2 seats with sliderscooler stylingsupportivecomfortable

Cons:some welding required (DIY)Dumb logosEverybody and their mothers have fake seats

I got to speak with a real JDM tuner guy that has a shop in Irvine area and he even said that some of the fake seats are more comfortable then the Recaros. Good luck on your choice.

Yeah, I'd really feel safe with those crappy ebay seats protecting me in the event of an accident. There is a reason why they are so cheap.

Just get the S14 seats, thats not really that bad of a price.

I got them and they are super clean. I think they are definitely worth the $180. If I was going to get racing seats, I'd get some nice recaros or something, but I'm on a budget right now. I just needed to get rid of my horrible driver seat. So uncomfortable.

Yeah, I briefly read about doing the manual seatbelt swap. For now I'm keeping the auto seatbelts. They make me feel nostalgic. :D

ChunkiDori I think a large Majority of aftermarket seats are not DOT approved even if you pay $600 per seat excluding the rails. It come down to how much you want to pay and whats worth it. I doubt 95% of sparco, bride, recaro, etc. are DOT approved seats. They might have some that surpasses DOT but that is only for certain models.

Having a set of cheap aftermarket "racing" seats in my car right now, i'd definitely advise against them. They suck. you get exactly what you pay for. Not 2 weeks into having the seats - not even installed in the car during those 2 weeks, the cusion inside one of the side leg bolster on one seat broke and the metal bar stuck thru. Having installed them, 3 of the 4 are now broken. The passanger seat has sliders installed, but custom moutning points were made in the floor, and no such luck w/ the driver's seat. With the sliders, it sat too high. It seems that side mount seats are a must for the 240, and more than likely, all the cheap seats on ebay are bottom mount. The seats aren't bad, but not the most comfortable, or most supportive seats i've ever sat in. And buying racing seats w/o atleast sitting in them is really dumb. They could be really wide, really narrow, really uncomfortable, etc. I'd quickly get rid of my seats and pick up some S14's if i had any money to do so, and/or could actually find a set somewhere near by.
