I have a 1994 240sx convertible (redundant, I know). I'm in the market for an alarm. I've read threads until I'm blind. I've learned that the installer can be more important then the product and that there are hacks in both the big box and speciality shops. I know people recommend the DEI lines, but they're expensive. I've gone to a number of different places looking at Viper and other DEI's.

Now, having said all that.......I went to CC and spent some time with the installation guy(s). Here's what they put together for me: Code Alarm 145 (with the mandatory CA 425A) keyless entry, 2 way paging LCD, remote start (don't really need that). We're adding a back up with battery. The final price for everything including tax is $286.44. I have no idea if this is a good deal.

I'm open to suggestions and bids! LOLHere's a link for the hardware:http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm...il.do

300 installed for an alarm isn't bad. Just make sure they hide everything well (hard to access), put good connections on the wires, etc.

You're right, it's more about the installer than the alarm. Just make sure it's a decent alarm . Ask them if you can supervise them while they install it. That way, you know what wires are going where for your car, and where they are putting the brain, alarm, etc.

2 way paging systems are nice, makes it easier to know if that alarm going off in the parking lot is yours or not (doesn't always work right, but most of the time). Remote start is cool too, but make sure the guy installs it right. Half my family has remote start and I've had problems w/ mine and my aunt has had problems with her's. Sometimes it doesn't start/work, mine used to have a cranking problem bcs the installer didn't tap into the right wire, which i temporarily fixed myself and then caused a bunch of other problems .
