So I've got my 91 hatchback sold for $1600, and I found a replacement 240.

This one is a 95, 173xxx miles, 5 speed, SE apparently, those big 16" stock 5 stars (NICE!), and super clean interior. The left front was hit by a pole at parking lot speeds, and he had the old fender to show it was minor. It will come with a replacement fender. The bumper is rough but functional, and there is a small amount of bubbling rust by the RR fenderwell and a small rust crease (2") on the LR area. The engine ran great, but I couldn't test drive it because the front end is torn apart including the headlights and such, because of the fender. The car is a pearl white metallic, (the fender is black), and the interior is black w/ those crazy patterns on the seat.

Here's the kicker... $2200 put back together w/ the black fender. He wanted $2000 as is where is, but I don't have the knowledge to put a fender, bumper, lights, and all that stuff back on exactly as it should be, and I think I'd have to drill out a bunch of bolts that failed.

Good deal?

You will not find a cheaper working 5-speed S14 SE with a clean title. Buy it now.

Not bad thats pretty average for the stuff that needs to be done. You might want to check for rust. Sound like a weekend project except for the paint.

Went ahead and put a deposit on it while my car gets sold. I drove it today, and had mixed emotions. It stumbled a tiny bit, and felt like it was being choked of power. So, I pulled it back into the guys garage, and we checked the usual suspects (plugs, wires, cap, etc.), and it just looks like there was water in the cap...causing some rusting. It makes sense because the engine was spotless due to a spraydown, but its likely the cap wasn't covered. So, I figure I'll just buy the damn thing, then replace all the tune-up things I can. Hell, its exactly how my 91 acted when i bought it, and as soon as i went NGK iridiums, NGK wires, and a fresh oem cap and rotor, the sonofabitch ran perfectly. I was very happy to find that during some rev tests that the exhaust was only rich; no oil, no coolant, no funny smells at all. Very reassuring. We even mocked up the repair fender and all the lights and stuff, and it looked good. Its kind of funny though, the entire car is stock pearl white, except for this metallic black fender. Reminds me of a dalmation. Other interesting thing that happened on the test drive. There was a clunk in the back end, and the owner told me that the RR shock and mount are likely dead. Easy fix? Other then the noise, the car handled predictably and much better then my tokico equipped 91.

This is a list of all the things I'm planning on replacing the minute I pick up the car, catch me on anything that I need to worry about that I miss:

NGK Iridium plugsNGK wiresOEM cap and rotorInjen or AEM short ram intake, or maybe just a K&N filter in the stock box for now.AlignmentTiming adjustment, and timing chain guide replacementReplace all fluids w/ Mobil1Replace shocks and struts w/ KYB or Tokico

Anything else important on the S-14's?

Thanks guys.

The clunk could be the shocks, but most likely worn out subframe bushings (very very common on high milage 240's)

$2000 for an S14 that does not have salvage title is a good deal. Sounds like a great rolling chassis.

You might consider doing an engine swap some day... You also might consider doing a S15 front end conversion as well.

Again... sounds like a very good deal and the basis for a great project car.

Easy fix then? Say about a hundred or so? The clunk sounds like it is higher up then the subframe, but I dunno, can't pinpoint it. Will inspect once I pick the car up for good.

thats a lot more moolah but its nice. if i had the cash (well now im just waitin to pick this other one up, ya know),...id be interested. I think I'm going to do a Kouki conversion to it...cuz im finding Zenki's not as attractive as my S-13. Its weird, I'd thought the grass WAS greener on the other side (you know, with 5 lugs, nicer seats, newer style, less rust, etc.), but now I'm a little sad to see my Hatchie go. <sniff>....

You guys will have to give me some ideas to make the Zenki pretty.
