Hi, I came here because I don't know anything about G35s or Infiniti cars for that matter because no one in my family has owned one. Anyways I wanted to ask if a 2006 G35 with 76k miles a good buy if the price is right? The dealer gave me a quote of 10.5K it has navigation, dual climate control and the other usual stuff. What I wanted to know if it will last a good 3 years and another possible 40-50k miles with good upkeep on it?

Thanks.

I would have Infiniti provide you with Maintenance records on the vehicle. If there are no signs of any issues and maintenance was done properly, then yes that is a good buy. The only main issue with the VQ series car is oil consumption. The 05-07 Rev Up engine even had a Technical Service Bulletin on this issue. Some of the older VQ's were plague with this issue, but the common denominator between any of the years was manual transmission cars were affected more. Continued maintenance and the car should last quite some time.

what should I look for in the maintenance records? I am not quite sure how often a G35 needs to have it's oil serviced, and checked up. Also like you said manuals were affected more often by oil consumption, how much would it cost in case the car needs it some time down the line? Its an automatic btw.

The Infiniti recommended oil change interval is 3750. I would check to see that the oil was changed regularly and what if any other problems were reported by previous owner and if those problems were solved. Lower mileage VQ motors are showing up on the market at a reasonable price. 3-4k to have a engine swap completed would be on average a good price. If you are mechanically inclined, that price can be diminished quite a bit. I would bet that you aren't going to have any issues with that car. Make sure to check carfax for any discrepancies in mileage or accident reports. Have even driven the car yet?

not yet. I just saw it online and I am getting a appointment to drive it sometime this week. Hopefully it will check out. Never had a car over 200Hp yet. Hope this will be a lot more fun to drive than what I have currently. Thanks for the info on oil change. Will look into that. My problem is I want a white one, and there are a lot popping up but none in white.
