Is there something missing in this pic of my distributor?

I was changing my oil today and noticed there is a little tab that looks like a wire should go on it... is something missing here?

Every time I change my oil I look at that tab and wonder what should go there. So using my superhuman deductive powers and the vast intellect that is this here internet, I crimped a female connector to a small bit of wire and connected it to the tab.And nothing else.

I would assume it would be for a ground of some sort, but I have yet to find the wire on my car nor any of the ones at the junkyard I visit on occasion.

I'm not 100% sure but i want to say it's specifically the ground for the AC compressor. I recall that tab when i removed my AC, but that was 2 yrs ago.

Nope. Consult (Nissan scan tool) reads timing. Or a timing light is easy to hook up, way easier than hooking up something to that tab.

your all kinda wrong and right at the same time, its more for noise cancelation. Its so the CAS does not get any interference from other electrical components. The dizzy is grounded out through the ecu not buy that cute little tab. peace.
