[quote=" AznRide [B 1)I'm in the FIST unit at Anoka right now, but attached to St. Paul Unit. 2)Are you still in the Guard? [/quote]
1)Most of your BN is south of you.The FISters are always out on their own but the FIST detachments are in Anoka, St Paul, and New Ulm was supposed to get one too.To my knowledge those are the only 1-125 FA FIST locations.
You should find a reason/excuse to visit the firing batteries to see the other side of the BN.
I know often the FIST is attached to all sorts of manuever BN's and hardly ver gets to come "home" to its actual BN the 1-125.
They are building a new armory closer to the cities, which will entail moving a firing battery and may also get a another location for any FISTER's to drill.
2) Yes and no. I am permanent active duty in an active unit that belongs to the KY guard..Kinda an unsusual arrangement, hence it confuses a lot of PPL.Even tho the entire unit is active, it is designated guard ,so it can be used easier as a state emergency response asset and not fall under the "Posse Comitatus Act".
Having said that, many of the "normal" guard units perform as well or better, than many active units.
Your unit the 1-125 field Artillery for example has a history of outshooting some of the better regular Army untis out there.
Ask one of the older guys in your outfit, they should be able fill you in.
Also the 1-125 FA has the NCF mission, so you will see yourself deploy to Norway 100 miles north of the acrtic circle in winter, come the next major AT.Of course for Minnesota boys that weather is no problem, but the unit that lost the NCF mission to us, ahem my old unit I mean,,was a GA unit that had some real problems adapting to the cold.
Fred...
PS: I think the 1-125FA is one of the best self-propelled Field Artillery Batalions (1-125 FA BN SP) in the total Army to include active duty outfits.
