Everytime it rains and gets very humid outside my windshield fogs up. But, it's not on the inside of the car where the fog sits, it's on the outside. I try to match the temperature of the inside of the car to that of the outside.

I turn the defogger all the way up and the temperature is matching the outside temperature, and it has no affect... It actually gets worse!

So here's what I want to know: What's the root of this problem, and how can it be solved?

I have pictures (below)

If I had to guess, I would say that the temp on the inside is cooler than the temp on the outside. Living in SC, I am sure it is quite humid (especially in a closed garage)and when all of that wet air comes in contact with the cooler surface, it is condensing on the windshield. Even with the defroster on, glass takes time to warm up- it is an insulator. I think that the temp on your windshield hits the dewpoint and you get...dew!Does this happen to anyone else's car, or just yours?

I should have offered a suggestion....Have you tried keeping a window or two down overnight? This should balance the temp/humidity on the inside and outside of the windshield and prevent the fog. I don't know what might get in your car if you do that, so it might not be feasible. I'd probably end up with a cat or racoon in my G...I'd rather have a fogged up windshield. Also, if there is any fog on your hood, roof or trunk lid, it may be the dew point in the garage was reached and dew is settling on everything. Less likely, but possible. If this is the case, keeping the garage door cracked a bit might help.

our a/c's blow colder than 70......try raising the temp and don't put the defroster on high...keep it on very low....but condesation will form on the outside no matter what if it's humid and there's a high dew point.

Well it never happens when the car is off or in the garage, it always happens when it rains and when i'm driving.

Tried that and it still doesn't work

Is there anyone else that to deal with this problem?

All the cars in Cali look like that if left outside at night (colder months).

If you go to a club and leave at midnight/2am w/e all of the cars will look like the Titanic scene, but on the outside.

RainX, RainX anti-fog, windshield wipers.

I wouldn't leave the windows cracked because I'd worry that the dew would end up inside the car too.

Here is how to solve your problem. When the humidity is high and the winshield is colder than the air temp, the dew will form.Take a few paper towels to wipe the winshield, back window and other windows. When you start your car, direct warm air towards the windows using the defroster on high. Raise the temp in the car to 75 or so and use the wipers until the glass warms up. By using paper towels cleaning all the dirt off the glass will prevent the wipers from streaking. Wipe the edge of the wipers also to clean them.

No luck... I've tried this and no success. But i did buy that rainX anti-fog stuff and I'm going to apply it as soon as i get a chance to. Hopefully it helps somewhat =/

Best way to keep it from forming on the outside is to raise the temperature

It does it on the inside because the dryer hasn't had time to remove the humidity out of the air. Putting the defroster on cold should clear it up within a few seconds.
