hey ladies and gents i know this might bea dumb question but i was wondering if there is anyway that you could make the sound of a subaru boxer engine come out of a sr20det. i know it wont sound exactly and i know that the exhaust has a lot to do with it. but i really like the boxer engine sound. Would upgradeing cams help out with the sound. and also i know exhaust on the 240sx has alot to do with it, any suggestions if i have the apexi n1 exhaust and sr20det, i want that deep sound plz help.

unplug any one of coil packs.

When SRs run on 3 cylinders it sounds like a boxer engine. Try it.

Or a massive boost leak.

After my cam upgrades, my exhaust note got more throaty, loud, healthy but still not like a boxer engine.

No. The SR is not a flat motor. If you want the boxer sound go buy a flat motor.

If you call this a problem then your SR should be given to someone else. You should be concerned with making your car perform like a boxer rather than sounding like one. Your mentality is rice. But to answer your question, and open downpipe sounds pretty throaty. It's the closest I've heard my car come that the noise of which you speak.

Ryan stop the hate noob, If he wanted his car to perform better than a boxer motor, hes already made the right choice, AKA a flat motor, in this case hes most likely talking about a subaru which would be a flat 4, an inline 4 cyl would be more effeicient than a flat 4 cyl, so by buying an SR20 over a Flat motor, hes already making it perform "better" than a boxer.

Depends on your definition of efficient. The I4 is an emissions and fuel hog just like any other I. And you misspelled my name. My point is that making a car sound/look like something it isn't is rice. Why not just buy that for which you aspire?

My bad, I didnt mean to misspell your name, but you were roughing the kid up pretty bad, I agree its rice to try to make your car sound like another, but Technically speaking, the I4 is more effeicient in making power than the flat 4.

I think a set of cams and an Apexi N1 exhaust is as close as you'll get.

See, here's a good example of a growing problem on NICO. As NICO grows it will see more and more questions like the above being asked. It's true, at the top of the site is a flashing red "Search" function that is quite useful in digging up previous threads that may possibly answer any questions or information the user may have.

Of course, we will always have silly questions being asked by people that may not be as mechanically inclined as some of us. If new members wanted to get the **** knocked out of them for asking a simple or absurd question than we might as well send them over to Z ilvia. Seriously, why not next time you have some smartass answer to give someone that does nothing but waste bandwidth just refer them to Z ilvia. By the time someone spends bashing someone else they could have easily contributed to NICO's archives by giving a helpful answer.

NICO is about helping each other out, not trying to be a badass on the internet.

And seriously Ryon, about 80% of your post are full of useless information. So until you have some great information to give to the SR section of NICO, do us all a favor and stay in the General Chat section.

Thanks - Dave

thanks for all your help guys, even you Ryon i was not trying to get bashed at all just asking a simple question. And to add by making my car more powerful......well i do have a sr20det i think that is a major upgrade to begin with. its not "ricey" when a car looks good and sounds good and can go fast all at the same time. Maybe i am more concerned about the way my car sounds rather than the performance, but the upgrades to make that sound is performance up grades anyways. so i think i have the idea is to pretty much upgrade the cams and gears as well and get my car finally chipped by enathlopy or JWT cause i have everything else. i was thinking of the full race greddy exhaust too for that deep troaty sound, kinda like a baby v-8 lol thanks again for input.

IMO, if you want a nice, throaty exhaust, you want the Blitz Nur-Spec, Its the best exhaust on this planet IMO, I LOVE that exhaust, I have the Apexi GT spec, and ive had the RS*R ExMagII, neither stacked up to the Nur-Spec.

Woah, Ryon slow down a bit.

For starters, I am fairly knowledgeable when it comes to helping people in my community with any car problems. I have much more car experience than yourself, ranging from building my 1966 Chevy Corvair to doing multiple engine swaps of varying types. I am also very knowledgeable when it comes to my Nissan. 5 speed swap, Z32 brakes, suspension... list could go on.

You are right though, I do not have an SR yet, although I have more than enough money. I just haven't had time to order it, seeing how I don't live at my house currently (it would stupid for me to order a motorset and have a family member sign for it upon its arrival). You can expect to see it within the next 2 weeks, I get out of school next Friday.

And what the ****? Following you around? I think not, I just happen to visit NICO every once in awhile and you post quite often.

Make love, not war and all that jazz.
