If he is your "cuz" then why not get him to hook you up? SR's will fail smog in CA because of the visual inspection even if you get it to run clean.

is that the only reason it wont pass because of the visual? so if i leave the sr at stock seatings it will pass the chemical test.

I'm not sure what it is you mean here. the sr will FAIL. Its not hard to figure out teh SR and the KA dont look anything alike. They MIGHT notice. They might also notice that (most sr owners)dont have an EGR, or charchole canister. Maybe they wont see the turbocharger that you dont have a CARB sticker for?

That big 3" test pipe won't help either. Oh, well I guess I am lucky not to have to worry about that emisions crap.

Hell if you have a horn and blinkers on a tractor in AL then it is legal for the road.

Have him sniff the thing first to figure out where your levels are. Then you can adjust it from there. Or you know what? If he's really going to hook you up, then just roll another, KA powered 240 up onto the dyno and smog that thing.

Dyno testing will eat you alive in CA. I wouldn't be so confident that an SR will pass the newer stricter emissions policies in CA anymore. It's possible to pass but not 100%. If your cousin does smogs, yeah I don't see why the visual would be a hurdle to jump. It's just the dyno and the sniffer you've gotta worry about from there.

yep, and that way if you and the tech get caught, you can both go to jail.

Don't be a hater. People don't understand the misery us CA people go through. It's really hard for a tech to go to jail if they're smart about it. If they're the #1 place in town for 'special' smogs they'll get caught, but doing a few cars isnt a big deal. They can just say the car was fine when you brought it in.

The CA smogs is so strict that most people just give up and run test pipes and stuff. If they would calm down with it people would be better off.

If you noticed, the original poster said that he already had a guy. People like that aren't exactly easy to come by. If he has a guy who is already helping him out, then that guy will probably be willing to put his VIN into the computer. That's cool, and kudos to him.

Pointing out that the smog guy might get into trouble is just about as lame as, for example; saying to someone who just got an intake and exhaust, "Yup, now you can go really fast and kill yourself."

Yeah, I feel you...man. Just hook up with a good shop that will suit your needs. Good luck on the smog dude. If you don't PASS, it can be reported as a gross poluter and your smog can turn ibto a TEST ONLY. Good luck.

Yep, same here. I'll never have to check my car's emmisions becuase of the area i live in. I'm in rural Washington state so it doesn't matter. Our tractors have to have the little orange triangle on them though. It means they're going under 25 I think.

There are always ways to "tune" certain vehicles. All vehicles can be passed regardless of engine/turbo mods...

Search... I'm getting very very tired of this cookie cutter thread that has been brought up at least 200 - 300 times.
