I have been using regular grade fuel...i think 89 octane...for the past few years and was wondering how much of a difference it would make if i switched to premium fuel...93 octane. Would it increase gas mileage, power, or anything else. Please let me knowThanks

Your ecu will stop reatrdding igniton and power when you use the proper octane.

You car should run on 91 or better.

Now that gas prices are higher, it makes even more sense.

Economy will improve slightly and proportionally speaking the difference between premium and lower grades is less now, as the difference stays constant in pennies but but pennies are now a smaller part of the gallon price..

Premium only.

do a gas mileage test on the differences. i always stick with the 93 but out of curiousity i would like to know. I wonder if the premium would actually pay for itself (pay for the price difference between regular and premium that is) with the increase in gas mileage.

In my experience it costs more to operate a car on premium; the mileage increase is marginal. Related trivia: I've read that it only costs petroleum companies $.04 more per gallon to make premium gas vs. regular. I don't think gas taxes are any higher for premium, so what's up?

In the scheme of things based on all the other posts

average cost of premium is ~ .10 more than mid grade

driving 15K miles per year @ 20 MPG avg = 750 gallons

750 gallons * .10 = $75 more per year to use premium

In all the posts here that I have read in my short infiniti life is that using a lower grade of fuel will cause the knock sensors to fail very prematurely and some other things I cannot remember.

My wife actually agrees with me on this that it is not worth the difference to have to replace the knock sensors or other parts because of $75 per year or $6.25 per month.

Not to sound too q45techish but it is like the guy who doesn't do his oil changes as he should because he is saving money and then his engine craps out due to neglected maint and he pays 10 times the amount he would have

Always been a believer of pay alittle now than alot later.

Just my $6.25 you would say

Peace
