besides different part numbers at the parts store...what physical difference is there between the 2 axles?

by turning one side of the axle and checking which way the other axle turned while in gear i determined that i have a non locking 5 speed...because the other axle turned in the opposite direction whereas if it were locking it should turn in the same direction...

you guys have been great and helpful with all your advice and suggestions...please keep up the great work!!!

however i ordered new locking axles... no my concern is if i use the locking axles will there be a problem>?

I havent personally compared each one side by side, but I'm 99.9% sure that you wont be able to use the locking differential axle if you dont have the locking differential transmission (00-01 transmission, or the I30t transmission).

I can actually compare the two tomorrow because i'm switching my nonlocking transmission on my 98 to a I30t transmission, which has the LSD. I'll take pictures of the two to compare the physical characteristics and post them up here.

Passenger side axles are the same. Driver side axles are not interchangable, though.

i finally got it straight (i hope)

the passenger side is the same as md mentioned above and the driver side is different

after much consternation and trips back and forth from the parts store

i got both new abs non locking axles for 5 speed and reinstalled the axle seal which was damaged upon first installation which caused the frustrating leak...hopfully it all holds together...

now i have the problem of the check engine light on due to the changeover from automatic to stick...any suggestions on how i can fix this problem?

thanks!

It may vary depending on the Nissan Axle Assemblies but anyways suggestions are still suggestions.
