I came across some cites that said there's an automatic trans for the rb26 and they came in either a 5 speed or 4 speed tiptronic automatic transmission.

The problem is i cant find it for sale on any websites.

Another question, how viable is it to get a rb26dett,25,20 to pass emissions in California? Is is really hard to pass?

I can buy the engine via ebay, just want to know what problems i may come across. This would be a complete swap. Just thinking outload, putting down some ideas nothing concrete yet. Inputs?

20s and 25s yes, there are definately auto transmissions. As for the RB26, I can't say 100%, but from my experience, I have never seen an Auto 26 with my own eyes.

Never seen an auto RB26 with the potential exception of the Autech four door R33 RB26DE car. No tiptronic.

Never made it to california so I would think it would fail immediately on the visual.

I know the a lot Stagea's has automatic transmission.

Yes.. they are with RB26s

I believe the latest RB motored had 4-speed tiptronic, any older would be just the 4 speed.

The only Stagea that came with the RB26 was the 260RS Autech verstion, and wouldn't you know, it was a 5 speed.

The auto Stageas were all RB20/25s.

Na, I never freshened up on my japanese either. Stagea is not in my line of car to drool about. However I would buy a local 260RS any day.

If your not using AWD and the rb25 and rb26 bell housing are the same..meaning you can use a automatic rb25 auto transmission,or use the 26 or 25 bell housing and use a z32 auto transmission.. but you would have only RWD. Emissions Im not sure about since FL doesnt have them. Are you doing a 240 swap?

Im almost positive with the right tune(kinda lean) and a good cat you will make it through with flying colors. I have a s14 kouki that has a single turbo rb26 in my car that Ive been building forever. Almost a couple of divorces and some fights with the wife are going to be well worth it in the end.I should have a dyno video up soon making close to 800whp.Send me you email addy and Ill send you some pics of it. This might help also... http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=756030

I just bought an RB25DET with an all wheel drive auto transmission. I was hoping it was an RE4R03A but I am finding out its a RE4R01A. The 3 can be built to handle about 1000 hp, the 1 about 800. So I am going to play with it a little.

All three motors were available at some point with an automatic transmission. In the skylines, the 5-speed automatic was available in the R32 and R33, but they replaced it with a 4-speed tiptronic for the automatic versions of the R34.

theres no way in hell that a skyline will pass emissions in california.
As soon as you tell them what car it is you will fail.
the skyline wasnt built for california let alone america
unless you did some massive work to get it to comply with all the DoT regulations and got it federally registered which i doubt it cause you would already know all this.

He's just trying to get the motor to pass emissions... the only way I can think is to modify the a/f and run alcohol for the test.

I might (should) pass the actual emissions test. Proper tuning, and a good cat converter, and it should be ok.

But you wont get that far, when they pop your hood they will know its a motor that's completely illegal to have in a street car and will fail you then and there.

Cali is stupid strict on motor swaps. Good luck trying to pass a skyline motor.

Take it to the mom-n-pop~est place that does the inspections you can find. Who knows, they might just not know what they're looking at. Good luck with that either way dude.
