try searching both recent and archived content and also search post bodies not topic titles.

searching recent, post bodies:

» Search Results

Your search for starter returned 39 results.

out of those, at least two threads deal with this.

now, try it yourself!

zerothread?id=89419First sentence of the third post. Not only should you read this, but everything that has a "STICKY" icon next to it at the top of this forum.

I don't mean to make you feel unwelcome, if I did, I apologize. I am glad to hear that you did try and search, and for your own benifit, you might try stating that next time. But just to let you know, this is a very basic question, with a very basic answer. If you had read all of the stickies, you would have known the answer to this question already.

Regardless, welcome, and I hope to see more of you!!!

speaking of... is there any way to get the search to be less gay?

so you can choose multiple forums and both recent and archived

im serious, can a mod request it from the message board provider? .. this is just about what i do for a living, and it would only take a few lines of code to un-gayify the search, if its coded logicaly and modularly, to make a "search both recent and archived content"button.... or just change the form to make them check boxes instead of radio buttons and add an ELSE statement to do both functions

I will have the administrators read this. We've talked about a lot, but I don't know how much we can do. I think a lot of it has to do with then we changed over to this forum software or something. Anyway, consider it done.

Please do, search is very frustrating. For example I was trying to find out if anyone has had luck bolting a Z32 flywheel to their CA.....so I typed in "Z32 AND flywheel" and it actually found posts with the word "AND" in it. Very frustrating. I dont think the "linking" words work or whatever.

Ok, so one of the administrators had this to say about the search function. Since he's the one that did a lot of the work to get the forum converted from vB to zero, he knows what's going on.

Here's why we have archived and recent content. We are huge. We have over 1 million posts and, believe it or not, it takes a search engine awhile to search through all of those. What archiving content does it speed up the forums, keeps them from getting bogged down with server-intensive searches. Even having our search engine on a different machine won't help because it still has to access our forum database to search.

At first, we didn't like the archive function either and we tried to get Mike to make it so some forums would not archive at all as a compromise. The 350Z Forum is an example of this.

While it may be frustrating to have to basically do two searches if you can't find it the first time under archived content, eliminating that second search would simply cause a lot of "what's up the server today?" posts. There's a reason the two biggest auto forums on the Net use zeroforum.

Nick
