Finally got a dash come from Amazon - Viofo A119S. Do we have a step-by-step guide (hopefully with pics) how to wire it into the fuse box?
Thanks in advance!

I don't think we do, or at least I haven't seen it, otherwise I would have added it to the FAQ. Unfortunately.

Technically, you should be able to use a guide on how to hard wire a detector...

Ilya is correct. I saw a DIY on using the existing wires in the rear view mirror to power a radar detector. Should be the same steps or extremely close. Also many of the non-budget cams have a hard wire "kit" available so it can wired to a circuit that is on only when the engine is running, or 24/7 depending on your preference. Do a search for radar detectors and you should see it - either in this forum or the M37 forum

I bought the same exact dash cam last week. Still haven't wired it though. Will keep an eye on this thread.

Not in the M35/45 Forum, but one of the members with a M56, who's done a lot of mods wrote one up:

Should be very similar, although the wiring color in the mirror for power/ground might be different.

I have a dashcam wired in my '08 M35. It's not for the M35, but I used this DIY. It uses a female cigarette lighter adapter and a fuse tap. http://www.golfmk7.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10375

My personal suggestion...based on what I did with a radar detector...dont connect to the power on the rear view. Just run a wire down to the drivers side fuse box and tap directly to a fuse. It will look cleaner than splicing the rear view mirror wires...although easier. And the wire tucks right into the headliner (15 min). Either way, good luck.

Agree with TDot. Even though I went the easy route, my dashcam wire is tucked up into te space between my headliner and windshield. Given, I did not wire it to a fuse, I just tucked the wire all the way around and have it tucked away into the center console. But again, TDot's idea sounds better than the mirror. I'll be following too!

Thanks, everyone!
I found the fuse box on the driver's side and it looks not so complicated to tuck the wire into headliner - will try to do this soon.

Re: location
I tried to play with the location of the dash cam and it looks like installing it on the right side on the rear view mirror is easier as it has more space due to the mirror being tilted towards the driver - any issues with that? Are there any sensor on the right side of the rear view mirror that it can obstruct?

Re: fuse
Is it Ok to use the cigarette lighter fuse to get power for the dash cam?

That depends. What is the amperage of the cig fuse, and whats the amperage of the cam? You want to find a fuse that 1/ matches the amps you need...or close(higher if necessary), 2/ something that if the cam causes it to blow it's not going to adversely affect you in the car. Before you ask, I dont remember what I plugged into. As far as sensors you should be good.
