Is there a single driveshaft conversion for 97' D21 with KA2

I have been trying to search and research to find the answer to my problem, but I can't find solid information.

I have a 97' D21 with: KA24, regular cab, short bed, and 5 speed.

My carrier bearing needs replacing, but I would rather just ditch the 2 piece shaft for a one piece as long as it isn't too expensive.

Is there an option for a single shaft from a newer frontier? From what I have gathered my wheelbase is 104.3 in, or 2649mm, which is the same for newer frontiers. I just have not been able to find out if there is a single driveshaft for these models.

I would assume that a single shaft from any frontier with the same wheelbase would work, but I would like confirmation before I go spending money. I am a broke full-time college student, so being frugal is a necessity.

I want to try this approach rather than having a driveshaft made.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

as far as i know no one makes one... but it would not be a hard job for a custom driveshaft shop

I would expect it to cost around $150.00 to have one fabbed. Had one done for my K5 7 years ago and it was $130.00

That's not too bad. Most prices I have seen to fab one were in the $250+ range. I may need to call some more driveline shops.

Well I am also in oregon dont know if it makes a differance. The mom and pop business are the best ones usually to deal with then the big corp ones.

where did you get yours converted to 1 piece that cheap? I am in WA (Seattle) and drivelines nw was telling me at least 400$ to make a 1 piece custom driveshaft. so i just went ahead and bought that center carrier bushing for 40$ and replaced my worn out one.

Didnt do the one peice fab but had one made longer which is basicly a new one with the end pieces weilded on place and ballanced.

The place I went to was driveline specalties in delta park in portland oregon. They do alot of racing and industrial stuff also. I have used them for my drag cars and 4x4's. Havent needed anything done in 6 or so years but their work is pretty freakin good everytime I have used them.

It may be a 4x4 vs 4x2 change. Mine is a 4x2.

Greetings,

New member and my first post...I also replaced my trucks center support bearing at 150K but I'm going to try the swap to a single shaft hopefully before the U-joints need replacing if I can find one:

Here's a good article but for a 4wd...should be similar for a 2wd.

I have the 97 2wd standard cab too if anyone knows the single driveshaft measurement for a standard cab 2wd it would be much appreciated for searching the boneyards!

Converting to a one piece driveshaft on a 2wd won't work as it will hit the cross member that the carrier bearing occupies. It is not hard to change the carrier bearing anyway.
