Is there a simple scratch repair process out there?

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hello,

I have a 4" long scratch on the front of my hood. The scratch is pretty deep, down to the metal. Are there any simple ways to fill-in a scratch these days? Any recommendations? I have a 2010 with the pearl white paint.

Thanks

I`m sold to this product after using it a few weeks ago. This is a must for fixing light scratches and maybe to cover deep scratches to prevent rust...

It seems like it will work too for deep scratches... http://www.drcolorchip.com/faq-repairing-scratches.php

Looks like a decent product.

Let us know how it works for you, if you use it.

Since I already spent $25 on the factory touch-up paint base and top coat, I am going to try the Langka kit (you use your own touch-up paint).

Please let us know how it works. I have always done scratch removal the old fashioned way, and there is nothing quick and easy about it.

Hello,

So I used the Lanka "Blob Eliminator", and it definetly made a difference (better than having the paint blob around the scratch). See the pics:

pic 1 is the scratch ; pic 2 is the scratch filled in with Infiniti touch-up paint ; pic 3 is the scratch after using the Blob Eliminator.

Wow I'm impressed, I never imagined repairing a scratch without repainting. From the first to last pictures, it seems as if there was never a scratch. How does it look to the naked eye and upclose?

You can still see the scratch, but it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb. I'm pleased with the outcome.

@timick1

Those are great results! Will that pass a 5 feet test? ie: not visible at first glance from 5 feet? My benchmark for black/dark coloured cars is 10 feet. lighter coloured cars (white, silver ,grey) is 5 feet.

I'm already getting rock chips on my car. And there a few bad scuff/scratches here and there already from people brushing up against the car with what seems to be metal wool scrubbing pads glued to their pants. :ohno:

Looks like spam. :poke:

I hadn't realized the last post on this thread was from nearly 3 years ago.
Still, I wouldn't had heard/read about this Lanka chip repair thing if it hadn't been for the spam bot. Silver-lining, I guess. :gapteeth:

I think I will go with Lanka next time. I bought. DR.colorchip and it was excellent until I went to grab the same bottle after keeping it tightly sealed for 6 month. What happened was the ink dried up inside the bottle. Instruction says, to add acetone to soften it. WARNING! Acetone will make your EX35 paint to bubble or peel off! I did a small test with the paint after mixing a little bit of acetone per instruction. The scratches that i touched up were almost disappear, but it cause a tiny bumps on the paint, noticeable only when you look at the surface while light is reflected on it. NO more DR. Colorchip for me. Why does it dry up that way even when the bottle is sealed?? :wtf2:

Dude! Give us a warning when you post a horror story! :ohno:

On a more serious note, that sucks. Chalk it up to another life lesson. Could always get the Nissan/Infiniti touch up paint. But I really want to give that Lanka thing a try, looks like a much more complete way of getting things done right. Also, found a few other kits on Amazon that seem to do something similar. But none of them, incuding the Lanka thing, has prime shipping.
