EVERYTHING in a a car is fused except the big cable to the starter. The speedwith which a 12V car battery can fry wiring is IMPRESSIVE. The fuse is thereto protect the wiring.
Do you have the stock head unit, or some bad-boy aftermarket unit? A bad-boymay pull enough current to blow the fuse.
Carry spare fuses, and never ever put a higher current fuse in. Today's carshave had their wiring very carefully matched to the current it needs to carry. This is to keep the weight and cost down In my '72 240Z, I don't think there was anywire smaller than 16 ga. In my '01 PF, there aren't many that big.
