Is there a car other than the 240sx that is RWD, under 3000 pounds, seats at least 4 people, (technically anyway), has a good suspension design, and has decent style? All this while coming in under 5k?

After im totally done with my car modwise and stuff, i might have to start a new car, but its going to have to live up to the goodness that is my S13.

I'm trying to think of a car similar to the 240sx, but i cant come up with it. Supra=too much $$, RX7=too small, IS300 and G35=still too much $$$.

What else is RWD, lightweight, and 240sx-ish? Im convinced nothing is. On a sub $5k budget at least.

RX7 is a great car and all, but its just too small for my taste. Ideally, i'd like 4 doors, the room of an Integra or better, and a perfect weight balance. RWD and 5 speed are absolutly required, no exceptions. I'm addicted to the tailslide.

you could go domestic and get a pony car, or sport the old school 200Sx or perhaps an AE86 Corolla or and older Celica, most will be less than 5k depending on condition. All have good build potential

Hachi Roku's are pretty cool. What else is out there though? I could really just go for a Skyline GTS. AWD is for pansies.

a skyline, thats funny... (good luck getting a legal one for less than $18,000)

your not going to get a very exciting 4 door car for under $5,000. The car will be cheap either because they were to begin with, the market is saturated with them or there are too many costs associated with operating that particular used car to make it worth a large initial investment (exotics excluded). 240's are cheap because they arnt very practical (only in demand with young performance buyers), and there are lots of them. :)

Skyline was an I wish thing. The car doesnt have to be 5,000 today. It could be 5000 used in 5 years. RWD, potential, cheap, and nice looking. With passenger room. Oh and a Mustang is outta the question, i dont think i need to say why.

those are some tough requisites! I couldnt find anything like the 240, so I bought one. When asked what my second choice was, I replied "I dont have a second choice."

Yeah i love my 240sx, i was just wondering if there is anything like it out there.

Are all the BMW's rear wheel drive? the site i go to to pull car specs (carpoint.com) doesnt say drivetrain layout on cars, so my search is a bit difficult.

I'm loving the early 90s 5 series, inline 6 baby.

The Porsche 944 and Nissan 240sx are nearly identical. Before I was in the market for a 240sx I was looking into the 944. Why did I pick the 240sx over the 944? Reliability. 240sx beats the 944 with reliability but the 944 is a Porsche. With the Porsche your driving a car with alot of racing heritage behind the name. It just adds to the overall feel. That's something I'd like, but reliability is more important to me being a student. For that budget look at the 924 S also. Cheaper than the 944 and doesn't look as nice but it's more aerodynamic and quicker. For 5 grand you could probably find a nice condition non turbo 944 or 924 S. Just finding one that's been taken care of will be difficult, but you won't have many problems when you find a well-cared for example with service documents.

"Are all the BMW's rear wheel drive?"

From what I know, BMW never built a FWD car. They do have AWD models (IX) but never front wheel drive.

no! bad bad bad bad! 944 = slow as a$$. dont buy a plain 944. youd have to go for at least a 944s2 or 951 (944 turbo). a good one of those would run you at somewhere around 5 grand at the least. a used turbo can go for up to 20 grand. reliability wise though, i think the 944 is a damn reliable car. my friend now owns 2 and they have not once given him problems.

bmw did build a fwd car, the new mini. all others are rwd. my dad has a 1989 bmw 325i (e30) and its a blast. very solidly built car. he has taken great care of it and even with 184k miles on it, it doesnt use one drop of oil, it always starts instantly and it never has given us a single problem. go for a e30 m3, those are some really nice cars. my dad's car was imported privately from germany, so its got its little differences (no limiter, higher redline, a little more power). ive also read somewhere that his model e30 325i came with a quaife lsd. i wish my 240 did.

Is the Subaru 2.5 Imprezza about the same price as a 240sx? The power should be similar and I'd expect the weight to be a bit heavier for the Subaru, but not by much. And of course the Sub is AWD.

edit:Yeah I just compared the two on MSN. The numbers are very similar.

not that slow, they are compareable to a stock 240sx, and the original question was:

"Is there a car other than the 240sx that is RWD, under 3000 pounds, seats at least 4 people, (technically anyway), has a good suspension design, and has decent style? All this while coming in under 5k?"

That my friend is a n/a 944. (or 924 S if your looking for somethign quicker) You'll have trouble finding an s2 or turbo for 5 grand thats in decent condition. You might be able to find a 944 S for under $5k but the rule with Porsches is to have atleast 1k or 2k for when things go wrong.

A 944S2 or 944 Turbo is not comparable to a 240sx, they have a lot more power. (and cost alot more $$)

I wouldnt care that much if i owned an se-r 200sx or sentra with the american sr even though its front wheel drive... but really just get an VG30ET Z from back in the day.

Or even better, the old L28's used to cook up alot of a$$ for any guy who owned one, and mods are still available for them from many aftermarketers.

If your gonna crush on the 240 like you do, you might as well go all nissan (i know i cant talk owning a 323and all, but i only beat and use that car and it likes it).

Q45 is nothing like a 240sx but seat four people has four doors RWD and has good styling and is really fast for a stock car IMO

Q45 is RWD? If it is, that'd be perfect. I thought they were front wheel though.

Okay, for $5,000 you could have one BADA$$ early 70's 510. They weigh just over a ton and can easily hold a 2.0 liter I think the hot thing for a long time (early 80's) was a NAPZ 2.0. I know a couple guys in south GA that even put a 300 TT motor in one.

Do a little looking around, best toy you could build and even comes in 2 dr, 4 dr and wagons.

Ahem? 944=slow? Stock '83 944 = faster than my '93 Coupe with intake and exhaust! Not to mention the sweet free-revving engine!
