I know in BMW's they tell you to not do certain things within the first 1000 miles. With my G35 Coupe coming soon, I was wondering if there is a break in period for it.

Id say that you should baby it for a while just like any new car.Your so lucky to be getting a G35!What part of the world are you in?If its at all possible and you get your car before 3/8/03 you have to drive that baby to the Spring Meet in bowling Green KY!:D

Yes i know i am very very lucky. What is the spring meet? I live in Charlotte, NC. They told me that it would be delivered on Jan 27. I was going to order it but some one had cancelled their order and it just happened to be the exact car i wanted. Black/Black 6-speed, prem and aero pack.

Yes we are gonna have a great spring meet here.

As for teh break in.yes tehr will be one.Break-in schedules are not quite as critical anymore with some engines, but tehre will be good break-in instructiosn for your VQ35 in your owners manual when u get it.

Some basic rules (differ a bit from one engine to anotehr. In the beginning especilly the first couple hondred miles, let it warm up well before driving.many say to follow this all the way to 500 miles but ,most agree teh first couple hundred are most important. Also dont redline it during break in.During firest couple hundred mile si would saty below 4000 rpm.

Anotehr useful rule of thumb avoid long periods of driving at exactly same load/rpm for examnple cruise contral at sixty for a half hours or so should be avioded in beginng.

However the above are general break in guidelines most manyfactureres extend them to 1000 miles with the first 500 (and especially 200) being most important.

But look up the #'s it says in your manual when u take delvery, when you follow these procedures and you will do right by the car.

sounds like a good chance for gentle break-in miles to go to Bowling Green Kentucky. We will also go to the track bt you shouldt run as new a car as yours on the track yet (tho it has been done by some with a G35).

Fred...:)

PS: Check our thread in the meets section.

Alex, your car sounds awesome. I have friends in Charlotte and I make down that way every so often. Next time I do, I'd love to see your G.

You might want to start a thread in the Meets forum just to give a shout-out to any NC members. Maybe a few of you can get together locally for a mini-meet.

Definately do not break it in slow. Take it out for the first 30 miles and floor it up hills every chance you get.. Then change the oil at 30 miles. Then drive it normally until 330 miles and change the oild again. After that it will be broken in and will love you for it.

Anyone who breaks in their car slowley will end up with a slow inefficient car. Break em in fast and they will be fast. You need to seat those rings within the first 30 miles and to do that you need to put lots of pressure on them while they wear. If they wear at idle or while the car is being babied, they will not seat as well and you will not get as much final power.

Go beat the **** out of it. And someone should also beat the **** out of you for getting a G35 coupe payed for by your parents at age 16. WTF...

Impele - Congrats on your new G35! Don't listen to any haters about being young and having a G35 - I got my I35 @ 18 and received plenty of crap from anonymous persons about this and that. I've come to the realization that most of it stems from jealousy. I also find it very hard to believe that some of these indignant, righteous people that "worked for everything in their entire lives" would turn down a new car if it was offered to them :rolleyes .

Anyways, LOL, not saying that any of those people have shown their faces here, but come to expect it.

I went to my first NICO meet earlier this year it was a blast. My parents didn't have a problem with it - provided I neglected to mention the ever-so-small detail that we'd be going to the dragstrip at Beech Bend ;) .

You might want to work that angle, and say it's just a meeting for enthusiasts - and that no harm could come of it :D

My Honda S2000 has a break-in of 500 miles, stated in the manual.

The G35 manual says not to go over 4000 rpms and not to maintain the vehicle at constant speeds for the first 1200 miles. This is also the same for the Q. I would follow what your manual says for your specific vehicle if you want peace of mind.

Well I don't think they would have a problem if the meet was like 1 0r 2 hours away, but Bowling Green is 8 hours away.

The only reason i have the bmw is because it was my brothers but he moved to california so my parents gave me the car. I was not going to even get a car until may but the dealership had the exact car i wanted that someone else had cancelled on. So i convinced my dad to let me. I also have to keep up a 3.5 gpa to keep the car.

Hey, give Alex some credit. At least the guy's not asking for advice on how to do brake stands on the way home! I think asking about the break-in period shows a hell of a lot of responsibility!

I got an almost new Mercury Cougar (POS, but it looked good for it's day) back in high school - digital dash and JBL was a beautiful thing in 1991. Then a 91 Maxima after that, and then I got my Q while I was still in college and got the same crap from some of my friends and others... but in all honesty maintianing that lifestyle after i got "off the tit" was probably more of a motivator than if I'd never had some nice things given to me! In my mind I knew that I had to bring in the bucks if I wanted to have a lifestyle as good or better than I enjoyed with the parents!

Now here's my break-in recommendation... head south on I-77 until you get to I-20 in Columbia... then west toward Augusta... then east on I-26... stop at Harbison, give me a call and I'll meet you there and test drive it! :D :ylsuper :icesangel

Its a good thing for people to have great cars while they are still young enough to really enjoy them.

I repeat, I am not flaming. In fact I made my suggestion for breaking it in. I just find it strange that everybody condones spoiling their children to the point of replacing a BMW of all things with the G35 coupe.

I think at that age you should be asking to borrow money for a tube of clearasil, but obviously you guys are way to serious around here. Now go beat the crap out of that G35 and set those rings.

Maybe, if you knew ALL of the circumstances surrounding him getting the car you wouldn't call it spoiling.

There is something to be said for the peace of mind of a parent, knowing his/her child has a new car, with roadside assistance, and crash test records that prove it to be very safe in case of a collision.

Not to mention, some kids earn their cars in other methods, aside from paying for it themselves.

I agree that the G35=BMW killer. I just can't imagine the conversation but I picture it to go like this.

"Mom, Dad, All the kids at school make fun of me and my BMW. They say it just isn't cool. The "in car " this year is the G35, and if I don't have one my social life will be ruined. If I take the garbage out can I have one"

"Well you have been a good boy lately, and if the BMW is causing you that many problems, then I guess it is alright"

Jesus man! What is your problem? Some "rich kids" at your high school ruin your life early on? There has to be a REAL reason for your bitterness...

Grow up...let it go.
