The owners manual says it should be changed at 60,000 miles. She brought it into EZ Lube and they told her the car didn't use a cabin air filter. Which is right, and if there is one where is it located and how hard is it to change, and approximately how much does the filter cost?My daughter complains of a bad smell when she turns the air conditioner on sometimes although I never noticed it. Could that be a dirty filter?

There is a cabin air filter on the Q. At least on mine (98) it's behind the glove box I believe. Take a look at the FSM and you will see how to change it. But I think bad smell comes from the vents themselves and need to be cleaned from time to time.

You have to remove the undercover and glove box and then some clips to access the filter. The procedure is given in the FSM. You can buy replacement cabin air filter from IoS, http://www.infinitipartsusa.com, for @ $29.

You can also buy BG Frigi-Fresh from IoS to address the mold issue (stink) in your evaporator area. Other forum members recommend Klima Cleaner available for $15 from this sitehttp://www.1z-usa.com/AC_Cleaner.html

Make sure your evap drain line is clog-free. To minimize possibility of mold forming in your evap area, switch to ECON mode in the last 3 minutes of your drive. This will allow any frost in the evap area to turn into water and then drain out.

Instead of looking at the FSM, why don't you just look at the post by Skibane where he is talking about a/c. In his photos, it clearly shows the cabin air filter and the steps to change it out. I printed off the photos.

FSM is explicit including drawings.

Not a ggod question from someone who has owned the car even a few months. Air, fuel and cabin filters are annual changes.

True maxnix very true. I was surprised he asked that question knowing he owned it for awhile now. Plus his post also shows the incompetence of the ez lube monkeys that don't know anything about cars!

I don't own the car, its my daughter's car. And Maxnix, read the owners manual. Air and cabin filter changes are not annual changes except under unusually severe conditions. See page 9.7 and 9.8. I know you like to throw money at your car, but you also posted you ruined one of your Qs by lowering it, causing premature tire wear out. Also, transmission fluid changes are listed as inspect, with no required change interval if it looks good. But you will be happy to know I had my daughter get a fluid flush while she was at EZ Lube anyway. I told her to tell them to drop the pan and clean it while they were at it but I am not sure they did it as there was no gasket on the bill of materials, but they did have a transmission filter on it. The pan looked fairly clean on the outside, but it might have looked like that anyway even if they didn't clean it as her car doesn't leak any fluids. The engine looks super clean even though she never had it cleaned.

Hey Victor, look at Skibane's post where he is talking about fixing a fan control module. He has photos that shows how to take off the screws and you can see the cabin air filter posted. I didn't see how to do it looking at the fsm, but his post cleared up all questions I had previously. Now, I just have to purchase the filter.
