I currently own a 90' Eclipse GS with a JDM turbo engine swap. I am pushing the the 450hp mark with a 60 trim t3/t4, 720s, 28X13X3.25 FMIC, clutch, walboro 255, AFC, quaife LSD, etc.... I am getting sick of FWD and have started researching the 240 w/ a SR20DET swap. here are my goals, tell me if you think this is a car for me... why or why not?

-BB 60-1 t3/t4-supporting mods (fuel, cooling, exhaust, etc..)-AEM standalone-built bottom end-suspension-head work (springs/retainers, cams, porting, HG, studs)-logging equipment-nitrous?

this is going to be a street driven drag car, i am not big into autoX. can this car/engine do what i am looking for? should i stay with a DSM and go AWD?

now for my 240/SR20 Qs:how are the trannies/drivetrain/rear end?traction with slicks?S13 or S14?should i be looking at a RB series? which one?how much do these cars weigh?tell me why i should pick this car.tell me why i should not pick this car.

thanks a lot,-Greg

howdy i'm a fellow dsm owner that jumped ship to nissan i had a 95 gst with about 275whp and iwas gonna dump 10-15k into it but decided to go rwd instead, the major factor for me was look at how many nasty awd dsm's there are... no matter what you build there will be hundreds like it and hundreds faster, i still think a dsm is great bang for the buckl but the 240 is a little diffrent and ultimatly would be faster 1/4 mile than a dsm because the rwd vs. the awd. although awd is king of street. basically it's up to you, parts to build a 500hp dsm are more abundant then a 240, but again that's because it has been done a million itmes over, and you can get parts for the 240 pretty easy, mine isn't done yet, but when it is it should go pretty good and i'm sure i'll be happy with it, the sr20 and the 4g63 imo are the best 4cyl motors around so really either is a good choice. have fun

with a mod list like that you either know alot, or have alot of money. you'd be more than welcome on the nissan boat.

The biggest reason I could give you NOT to pickup a 240/SR is that you will never the the money back out of your current car. Not that you couldnt get a good amount, but it probably wont add up to what you've spent, and you will be back to square one.

i am going to be a college student so i can tell you i def. dont have a lot of cash ;) but i like to think i know my stuff.

i realize i probably wont be able to pull lots of money out of my car...but the market for used stuff isnt too bad. chances are i will part the car and bring it back to stock then sell it.

can anyone with a high horsepower 240 respond and tell me they like it. how does it handle? what would you have done different? would you have done it with a different car after experiencing the 240?

I cant list myself under the high hp 240 list BUT i can tell you that you might look into the CA18DET section. with the kind of aftermarket list you have it might be a better idea. The CA is an iron block (alot stronger) and while its an older engine its not really inferior to the SR.

I'm getting an SR myself but i dont have the plans you do. Ask around the CA board and check out that option. THe CA is also cheaper and if your gona be upgrading ur turbo and all that mess its probly a smart way to go there. The CA guys will tell you where to get parts for it.

I think the CA is good to around 600hp without serious bottom end work. i could be overshooting a bit, but its way over the sr.

s13 and 14 depends on ur taste. the s14 is kinda big for my taste. and i think its heavier. I cant tell you a single thing about a RB series other than prepare to shell out some money.

I dunno, now a-days the Sr motorsets are running so much, you might even save a bit if you went RB20

Give Wayne @ phase2motortrend.com a call.. Tell him you want high power for drag racing. He just put down 474RWHP on a stock bottom end, hehehehe.

I'll second the CA idea...once you start making big power it gets cheaper because you dont need to sleeve the block etc. The stock rods are quite strong (forged from the factory) so all you really need is forged pistons, a good headgasket, and a rebuild to make sure everything is ready for the strain.

the 4g63 is probably the most mod-responsive turbo 4 EVER. its proven itself time and time again to make stupid huge power for cheap. AWD gen1 DSM's are definately better drag cars.

that is true in almost every case, but at the ultimate level rwd is better for drag racing, all be it not likly any of us will get to that point but you can cut low2's mid 1 60 ft times with rwd and you won't have as much drivetrain lag up top as wit hawd that's why all the fastest 4g63 cars are rwd like rau buschur and extreme

As much as I like the 240 I would have to say, I like AWD better. or you could take a look at this web page...

http://www.afterdark-tuning.co...ckage

notice that says RB26DETT with AWD installation. And only at the low, low price of $17,000.

Dude, it is all you.
