I was reading the specs on the upcoming GTR Spec V, and as great as the carbon fiber is, $160,000 with a 5hp increase seems plain wrong.

I write for an auto blog site, so I wanted to dig a little deeper to figure out what the hell costs so much on this car. I mean, COBB will give you 50 more hp for what, $1000? I know the Spec V isn't about power, but you think Nissan would have done a simple ECU tune, it wouldn't have done anything but help the car sell.

So after reading about it I wondered, with all the good tuners building such awesome GTRs, can you build a better car than the Spec V for cheaper? I dunno, maybe I'm missing something, but I'd rather get a stock GTR and mod it myself.

I put together a comparison between the Spec V and a Switzer-built GTR. I'm interested in hearing what you guys think about the Spec V.

Nice article... I enjoyed it. What you are forgetting is the simple fact that people WANT brand names... and that is something that is very difficult to put a value on.

as mentioned, buying it is about getting a factory car with a brand name. Think of the 370Z NIsmo. For an extra 15hp over the base 370Z, some brakes, and suspension bits, is it worth $10k? You could probably build a car that accelerates faster, stops better, and is overall a better car for tuning. But, if you want to just go to the dealership and drive it away, you can't beat buying it off the showroom floor.
