I have an s14 SR20det in my 1996 240 and do not have a whole bunch of experience with these engines. I was having trouble with a riding idle when I came to stop signs and what not or just daily driving. I took the idle air control valve off and cleaned it with some carb cleaner and it was BLACK -- very bad... I cleaned and cleaned and now it does not do it as bad and will hold idle very well. But when I am coasting or in neutral it is running 300 rpm higher than when I stop -- it stays at like a 1000-1200 rpm when coasting then settles to around 750 or 800 which is normal --- does any one elses sr20det do this?

Just going to though this out there. Is the ecu for an automatic? I have heard of this problem with ka running an auto ecu. My sr also does this but it is an automatic.

No -- I cleaned the idle air control valve and was leaning towards that but I am thinking this---- My TPS is off my automatic kadog and I looked on courtesyparts and they have two different part numbers for an automatic ka24de tps and one for a 5 speed model -- would running a auto tps on a 5 speed car (it was transferred over) make this happen -- it is kinda kewl because I do not have to take the car out of gear when making corners and what not but it sucks otherwise....... I am thinking either tps or fic valve not the idle air valve since it revs up on cold starts.....

I am now thinking it is an exhaust leak at my greddy elbow since I just have had a three inch custom magnaflow exhaust made for the car... Mucho better....

Yeah it's supposed to do it. I've seen it called a rolling idle or a moving idle and most stand alones have options for it in them.
