Is the radiator fan supposed to be on all the time?

I replaced my radiator fan (the smaller one, connected to the radiator) with one from a Sentra today, because mine was broken. The only thing different about the Sentra one was the connector, so I wired the connector from my fan onto it. I know it works, because it would spin when I hooked it up to a battery. But when I put it in my car (93 hatch), and turned the engine on, the fan would stay still. My question is, should the fan start spinning whenever I turn my car on, or is it only supposed to kick in when a certain temperature is reached? Thanks.

You know it's just an A/C fan right?? It only turns on when you turn your A/C on.

Turn on your A/C and look, bet it's spinning. I bet there was nothing at all wrong with your old fan, you just didn't know how it worked. There is no temp sensor for the fan, it just doesn't care, if your a/c is on, so is the fan. Unless you wired it to your fuel pump that is. Then it's always on.

Hah, it was broken. The nut that held the blade to the motor fell out, and the blade cut up the radiator and everything else around, until it finally broke into three pieces.

on s14's the A/c fan's function is dependant on temperature and if a/c is on so it will turn on when either one happens, do a search, im sure its been covered

I turned my AC all the way up, but the fan doesn't move. I'm guessing it must be an electrical problem. What should I check?

nope, i think you are thinking of a pusher fan that we dont have.

on both my S13s i just dropped the mechanical fan and wired the fan to come on with the fuel pump.
