I was shooting the breeze with my service manager . I mentioned the no-touch new trannies . He said they still need the same fluid changes and TLC as our older Q's , just that Infiniti made it harder for anybody except the dealers to maintain them . I told him that probabely the owner's manual does not require this anymore , but he said they are doing it anyway at the 30Kmi services .Anybody knows what is the real deal with the 2002 and up trannies?

Special tools required to check level and change fluids unless you use the BG flush machine. The new ATF is special to match differing clutch chacteristics. DEXRON cannot be used!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Every ATF brand should be changed frequently if you want to exceed the 100,000 cycle design life.

I wouldn't consider the new 5 speed AT any stronger than the old Q unit .........it is lighter............things were lasting too long on the old Q after all the warranty was 70k and most were going 140-150k [94-96] [97-01].

Note that Mercedes will be using a new ZF 7 speed AT in the 2005 models..........5 speeds are already obsolete as most are into 6 speeds AT this year.........BMW, Jag, MB, Audi.

They are solving the sluggish 65-105 problem and the 50-75/80 mph pass with separate: 2 different 3rd gears [passing a truck or doing the quarter mile]. Who says you can't have cake and eat it too.

These babies will cost $5,000 for a remanned insread of $2980 for the current Q unit
