I bought a old HKS F-con on ebay. I only bought it for the wirring harness that all the old HKS products came with. They have wirring harnesses that plug in between the factory ECU and Main Wirring harnness. Keeps you from having to cut you main wirring harness at the ecu when installing piggy back computers.

I was wondering however how good these old things are? I would be using it with a HKS GCC. Do all they do is up the injector pulse? Can't you have HKS burn you a new chip to compensate for larger injectors? Can you still get chips for it?

WOuld it be worth it to buy the GCC an use the F-con or just use the wirring harness i bought it for and a E manage?

ThanksShawn

they work just fine and yes you can have a chip burned for it. That is what makes them obsolete though. You have to find a shop that can program the chip for you. HKS still sells chips, harnesses and main units. I have two left, anybody want to buy them?

$100.00 each shipped. One is for an RX7 and the other is for a Levin. They can be set up for any car with the proper harness and chip. I can purchase and install these before I send them for whatever the parts cost me. about $100.00 for the harness and $200.00 for the chip, takes about five minutes to do it.

So $100.00 for it as-is or $400.00 configured for your car with the off -the-shelf HKS maps on the chip.

Well how would it compare to a Greddy E manage. I have one on my Z and you can do just aobut anything with it. Close to getting a stand alone as you can get with out the stand alone price. I really don't need all that adjustability though. I like the fact that it's plug and play. I would however get a GCC to control it a little better.

If i do decide to keep it can you get me a new HKS chip for it? I have no idea what chip it comes with. I have every thing else though.

ThanksShawn

I guess i will have to crack it open and see. It should say on top of the ROM if i am correct?

leave the chip in and have it burned for your car. The chips are physically the same it's just the data that's different. If you bought it from HKS you would have a jack-of-all trades chip but you can't know what has been done to this one so it's best to assume it needs a re-write.

Where can i have it re-written? Do i have to go to a HKS dealer? How much does it usually cost to have it re-written?

ThanksShawn

I would think most shops that are HKS authorized dealers would be able to burn VPC or F-CON chips. I have no idea how much it costs I have been in Japan for almost ten years I'm behind the power curve on what prices are in the states.

They had to send it to HKS. I guess i could do that too.

Anyway i guess i am going to use this system with a GCC but i really havn't heard any pro and cons about it.

ThanksShawn
