i recently swapped a 5 speed into to my i30t and now the check engine light stays on...

i am guessing because none of the plugs that used to go to the AT are not plugged in...

i have found a 5 speed ecu from same year maxima (96) and am wondering if they will interchange...

does anyone know if this will work? or any other suggestions on how i can fix my check engine light?

thanks in advance!

It should work. I am no master of electronics, but I know that mechanically they are the same car, so it should work.

Also, usually the CEL is not lit by a transaxle problem. Usually when the transaxle has a problem, the OD light stays on. But since your car is missing that auto... I am not sure about the light issue. Easiest way to findout is to take it to Autozone and have a scan done and see what code pops up.

it should work, but I would hop over to .org and see what they say in their swap FAQ about this... IIRC it's a pretty simple fix, but having never actually had to fix it, I don't remember the details.

It's bad "netiquitte" and basically against the "terms of service" that you agreed to when you signed up here, to direct our members to another forum.

Well, unless we have the answer here already... do we? I'm looking and I don't see it!

Yes, they're interchangeable.

Since the Maxima is a higher-tier model, it's pretty much "fully loaded" in all trims. However, one thing that WAS an option on 4th gens was ABS.I'm not sure what would happen if you use a non-ABS ECU in an ABS car.

The ECU and ABS control units are separate, so the OP should be ok there. The main differences are between MT and AT vehicles; AT ECUs have an additional interface for the TCU, if memory serves properly.
