July 2nd, 1776 the Continental Congress votes to declare its Independence.

July 4th, 1776 the Declaration of Independence is ratified...

So what do you guys think? Should the 2nd or the 4th be Independence Day?

Personally, we celebrate the 3rd of July as Independence Day in my wife's family. A holiday we picked up from White Horse Beach Massachusetts.

Why can't it be both with a rest day in between. Otherwise, I vote for the 4th.

July 4th. That is the official declaration. They only voted to declare independence on the 2nd and there's nothing official, like a document, that declares independence until the Declaration. They could have voted to declare independence and the vote could have failed...

It nearly did. I believe that John Adams wanted a unanimous vote from all 13 Colonies. New York Abstained waiting for further instructions from Albany. Pennsylvania nearly voted no because of John d!ck. Delaware voted yes and ended the vote when Caesar Rodney rode from Delaware to Philadelphia to break his state's tie vote.

That would be one hell of a fireworks bill. You ought to see the Fireworks Show that Repoman and his wife put on the 4th. Multiply that by 365 days and no one in Northern Hamilton County is going to have sleep at night!

Yeah, no kidding Cold_Zero. My cousin and I put on a show after the city's show, our grand finale alone was probably close to $200 worth. Huge boxes, mortars, some giant roman candle thing, with a few other things. The 4th is our Christmas.

Repo managed to turn the suburbs of Indianapolis in to Baghdad 2004 at the hight of the insurgency. It was that bad ***.... You have to love the relaxing of fireworks laws...
