hey, I have always used regular 10w-30 motor oil on my 95 max with 130,xxx miles. This time i went out and bought royal purple oil which is synthetic. before I do the change I want to double check cos I have heard synthetic is not good for old cars. Is there any downfalls to using synthetic oils?

The only real downside is that synthetic may leak where dino oil didn't.

I tried synthetic in my 95 240sx last year. Mileage: 12xxxx. Like they said, as long as ur motors not leaking...DO IT! After i switched to Synthetic, i could totally tell the difference! It revs up quicker and literally feels faster. Try it...u might like it.

I just switched over to synthetic (on my 3 change) and I notice that it gets dirtier faster than the dino oil did. My only thoughts are that the engine is really dirty and the synthetic is cleaning it out...not sure.

I will say, that the Mobil clean 7500 lasted me longer than the Mobil 1 extended performance which is rated for 15,000 miles. Kinda sad when one is twice the cost of the other.

With the car running a long time also on non synth, do a blend the next oild change of 50/50 and then do all synth.

I don't see any oil leaks and don't think I have any but I'm a bit concerned if all of a sudden this **** starts leaking I'm gonna be pissed. royal purple does come with a royal price tag. I guess it's a chance I have to take. but thanks guys for all ya input.

Downfall is the crud around the rings might unstick and it mightburn oil

Upside is the syn is slipplier and your engine wears less

I wouldn't change oils.

I like the syn because u can go twice the miles without changingoil as often. If you ever had someone twist off your oil drain plugsyou would want it too.
