i'm pretty sure anodized (i think that's what it's called) windows are illegal everywhere, since say the, oh, police, can't see inside your car when they pull you over and you could be aiming a shotty at thier head and they would never know.

According to Indiana Code 9-19-19-4 subsection (c), any tint over 30% is considered legal. However, if the tint is reflective and the officer cannot see inside the vehicle it is illegal.Quote »Indiana Code 9-19-19-4

IC 9-19-19-4 Sec. 4. (a) This section does not apply to a manufacturer's tinting or glazing of motor vehicle windows or windshields that is otherwise in compliance with or permitted by FMVSS205 as promulgated in 49 CFR 571.205. Proof from the manufacturer, supplier, or installer that the tinting or glazing is in compliance with or permitted by FMVSS205 must be carried in the vehicle. (b) This section does not apply to the driver of a vehicle: (1) that is owned by an individual required for medical reasons to be shielded from the direct rays of the sun; or (2) in which an individual required for medical reasons to be shielded from the direct rays of the sun is a habitual passenger. The medical reasons must be attested to by a physician licensed to practice in Indiana, and the physician's certification of that condition must be carried in the vehicle. The physician's certificate must be renewed annually. (c) A person may not drive a motor vehicle that has a: (1) windshield; (2) side wing; (3) side window that is part of a front door; or (4) rear back window;

that is covered by or treated with sunscreening material or is tinted to the extent or manufactured in a way that the occupants of the vehicle cannot be easily identified or recognized through that window from outside the vehicle. However, it is a defense if the sunscreening material applied to those windows has a total solar reflectance of visible light of not more than twenty-five percent (25%) as measured on the nonfilm side and light transmittance of at least thirty percent (30%) in the visible light range.

(d) A person may not tint or otherwise cover or treat with sunscreeningthe parts of a vehicle described in subsection (c) so that operation ofthe vehicle after the tinting or sunscreening is performed is a violationof subsection (c). However, it is not a violation of this chapter if thiswork is performed for a person who submits a physician's or optometrist'sstatement as described in subsection (b) to the person who is to perform the work.[/quote]

Not all reflective tint is 100% reflective.. ive seen it to where it doesnt reflect everything, and it looks like normal legal tint(just shiny).

no...actually 15% means the tint lets 15% of the light through. So in all actuality 15% is darker than 30%.

hmm... i was under the impression that 0% tint would mean the window would be perfectly clear and have no darkness to it and as u increase the tint it lets less light through

I've heard people say that before, but the more common convention is that the percentage corresponds to the amount of light transmission through the film.

Limo tint is commonly known as 5%, seeing as it allows 5% light transmission through the film.

BTW - I'm getting 35% Llumar Platinum plus installed Tuesday. I read on the manufacturer's site that even though llumar platinum plus is reflective, it meets all 50 states' requirements regarding the reflective levels of the tint. I'd take that with a grain of salt though..

Ah, I just found a tint law chart for all the states. It says that Indiana will allow tint that has up to 25% reflectivity.

According to this site, the 35% Platinum Plus I'm going to get has 18% reflectivity.

You think thats bad? Here in Illinois its illegal to have your front side windows tinted at all! I'm not sure what to do about mine yet, alot of people get around it by just tinting them much lighter than the back, but it still sucks, I hate how cars look w/ only the back windows tinted. I lived in Orlando for 4 years and paid extra when I had my last 240 tinted to have it illigally dark (5%) all around. I got pulled over a couple of times (for speeding) and cops mentioned that it was too dark and the sunshade was too low, but never actually got a ticket for it.

i'd like to tint my windows 30%. that's all i want anyhow. as far as the quarter windows and the rear window, there are no regulations in DE for it. the side windows aren't allowed to be tinted, but cops only harass you if you have something like 20% or lower.

reflective tint, is that the mirror type? if so. that looks so bad on a car. just tint it regular. geez.

yeah that is incorrect. I had 5% tint on my windows and you could not see ****. The higher the number, the more light gets through (so the less dark the tint it)

Check your local laws. I know in ND, it is not a fix it ticket. They just fine you. Most times people get caught because they were doing something else unless the officer is bored or is on the hunt for that type of thing. Even in california where I got the tint done, i would get pulled over for speeding or whatever and I never got a fix it ticket for my windows. Only a warning.
